Senior Java Developer (Spring Boot, SQL)

A payments technology company is looking for an experienced Senior Java Developer to join its growing engineering team. This is a hybrid role based in Cape Town, with flexibility for remote work for the right person.

You'll take a lead, hands-on role across the delivery cycle - building integrations with client and third-party systems, designing and building new functionality, enhancing and maintaining existing systems, resolving third-line queries, and mentoring other developers. The work is backend-heavy on secure, high-volume, real-time transaction systems.

What you'll do

• Build and maintain integrations with client and third-party systems
• Design and develop new functionality
• Enhance and maintain current systems
• Development testing, system security and audits
• Third-line query resolution
• Mentor and provide technical leadership to the team
• Improve development techniques and processes

What you'll need

• A tertiary qualification (or equivalent training) in software development, computer science or engineering
• 8+ years' hands-on development experience
• Java (Standard and Enterprise editions) and Spring Boot
• SQL (MS SQL Server or PostgreSQL)
• A modern build and version-control workflow (Maven, Git) in a continuous integration and testing environment
• Comfortable with REST / OpenAPI-based integrations

Nice to have

• Exposure to financial transaction processing systems
• Multi-threaded, high-volume, real-time systems
• Agile delivery (Scrum or Kanban)
• Front-end experience with Angular
