Job Title: Senior Embedded Software Engineer
Salary: Up to £75,000
Location: Hybrid (3 days per week in the London office)
We’re Pod – one of the UK’s leading EV charging providers, trusted by over 250,000 customers and powering more than 5 million miles every single day. But behind the numbers is a team of passionate people working together to shape a smarter, more sustainable future.
We started off in 2009 as Pod Point, helping people make the switch to electric as EVs began to hit the road. Today, we’re leading the way into a smarter energy future. As part of the EDF family – the UK’s biggest generator of zero-carbon electricity – we have the strength and stability to grow for the future.
And we’ve started that growth already. In 2026, we welcomed EO Charging into the Pod family, bringing together Pod’s strengths in home, workplace, public and smart charging with EO’s specialist fleet and depot charging technology. The acquisition significantly expands our commercial fleet and energy management capabilities. Together, Pod and EO are helping logistics, transport and operational fleet customers electrify at scale, optimise charging performance and make better use of existing grid capacity.
Pod is the next evolution of Pod Point. As electrification becomes everyday, Pod is here to help build a brighter future for society by managing the flow of energy, making it affordable, accessible, and for the benefit of everyone. With 250,000 customers already trusting us to be at the heart of their EV life, we see Pod playing a leading role in the UK’s increasingly electrified future. Our focus is on powering not just homes and vehicles, but local communities and social progress.
Pod is here to help build a brighter future for society by managing the flow of energy, making it affordable, accessible, and for the benefit of everyone.
We’re building the next generation of connected EV charging technology at Pod, and this role sits right at the heart of that journey. You’ll have the opportunity to work on complex, real-world embedded systems that are used at scale, while collaborating closely with talented engineers across hardware and software. We’re looking for someone who enjoys solving challenging problems, takes ownership of what they build, and wants to make a tangible impact as we continue to evolve our platform and technology
You'll be responsible for:
- Design and deliver embedded software - You’ll design, build, debug and test embedded software for Pod’s hardware platforms, ensuring reliability, performance and quality at every stage
- Own features end-to-end - You’ll scope and deliver software features across new and existing products, contributing to system architecture and ensuring solutions are scalable and fit for purpose
- Collaborate across hardware and electronics - You’ll work closely with the electronics team to support new designs, adapt existing systems and diagnose hardware-related issues
- Integrate modern connectivity and IoT technologies - You’ll integrate peripherals into a mature embedded Linux environment, working with technologies such as Thread, Matter, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth and cellular IoT
- Drive technical quality and best practices - You’ll contribute to strong engineering practices including technical design documentation, version control and CI/CD, helping improve how we build and deliver software
- Support and mentor others - You’ll mentor junior engineers through code reviews, coaching and active participation in team planning, helping raise the overall capability of the team
- Contribute to system architecture evolution - You’ll help shape and evolve the overall software architecture, ensuring it remains scalable, maintainable and aligned with future product goals
- Drive debugging and root cause analysis - You’ll investigate complex issues across the hardware and software stack, identifying root causes and implementing robust, long-term fixes
- Support product lifecycle and continuous improvement - You’ll contribute across the full product lifecycle, from early development through to release and iteration, continuously improving performance, reliability and user experience
What you’ll bring:
- Embedded software experience - You'll have 3+ years experience in embedded software engineering, ideally within consumer IoT or connected devices
- Strong engineering fundamentals - You’ll bring a strong understanding of modern development practices, including system design, version control and CI/CD pipelines
- Relevant technical background - You’ll have a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Structured and delivery-focused approach - You’ll be organised, detail-oriented and able to deliver high-quality work in a structured way
- Strong communication skills - You’ll be able to explain complex technical concepts clearly to a range of audiences
- Positive, proactive mindset - You’ll bring energy, ownership and a collaborative approach to problem solving.
