Senior data engineer and team lead at Version 1 driving the migration of Irish Revenue analytics workloads from on-prem platforms to GCP BigQuery — assigning tasks to juniors, QA-ing and peer-reviewing code, and handling live incidents. Core stack spans GCP BigQuery, Databricks, Unity Catalog, AWS and SQL Server.

How this opportunity is different
This is a great opportunity for an experienced Engineer who wishes to broaden their role through working across multiple data and analytics projects and products. The Data Engineering team is working with new, innovative technologies such as Databricks, Unity Catalog, and AWS alongside established technologies like SQL Server.
Key Requirements/Skills required for this role:
Extensive experience in data engineering.
Experience with cloud-based data technologies and/or migration of data and associated systems to cloud.
Experience with AI-assisted development.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to manage and work with large teams.
Good team‐player, with strong interpersonal skills. Ability to connect, network and maximise the performance of a team in a challenging hybrid working environment.
Understanding of systems architecture and databases
Requirements gathering / Business Analysis skills to allow effective communication with the business and ensure smooth translation from business requirement to technical requirement.
Technical solution design skills to determine the optimum solution using the correct blend of technologies to meet a set of defined requirements.
Ability to perform complex analysis, to facilitate decision making and determine the appropriate courses of action.
Ability to synthesise complex technical information and deliver meaningful messages to people of various technical abilities.
Sound grasp of the fundamentals of taxation and/or customs, from registration through to returns filing and payment options.
Knowledge/experience of project delivery methodologies, application development lifecycle, waterfall development model, agile development model and hybrid development model.
Experience working in standards driven environments.
Experience working on engagements with technologies and architectures similar to Revenue’s as outlined in Appendix 9 of RFT2024.
Experience working in coding languages as outlined in Appendix 9 of RFT2024.
Experience working with data using relational databases such as SQL and Ingres, and NoSQL frameworks such as Hadoop.
Familiarity with techniques for parsing and manipulating structured data formats, RDBMS, XML, JSON, text files, etc.
Ability to review project deliverables for completeness, quality and compliance with project standards.
