Database Administrator hired for a 3-month project migrating an on-premises Microsoft SQL Server environment to Amazon RDS for SQL Server. Day to day: assess the current environment, plan and execute a low-downtime cutover using AWS DMS/SCT, validate data integrity, then tune performance, backups, security, and monitoring. 100% remote for LATAM/Mexico.
We are looking for a talented Database Administrator with strong Microsoft SQL Server and cloud database experience to support a 3-month migration project from an on-premises SQL Server environment to Amazon RDS for SQL Server.
In this role, you'll be responsible for helping plan, execute, and validate a secure and reliable database migration with minimal downtime and no data loss. You'll work closely with engineering teams and the client throughout the migration, from assessing the existing SQL Server environment and planning the migration strategy to executing the cutover and supporting the stabilization period.
You'll have the opportunity to work with technologies such as Microsoft SQL Server, Amazon RDS, AWS Database Migration Service (DMS), AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT), and AWS cloud services, while contributing to database performance, security, backup, and disaster recovery practices.
If you enjoy solving complex database challenges, working on critical migration projects, and collaborating closely with technical teams and clients, we'd love to hear from you.
We are a remote-first, cross-functional engineering team focused on delivering reliable solutions through collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement.
Our development and delivery approach emphasizes:
✅ Careful planning, testing, and validation before production changes. ✅ Collaboration with engineering teams, clients, and technical stakeholders. ✅ Clear documentation, communication, and knowledge sharing. ✅ Ownership, accountability, and proactive problem-solving. ✅ Agile and iterative delivery with a focus on measurable results. ✅ Continuous improvement of reliability, security, and operational processes.
You are an experienced Database Administrator who enjoys working with Microsoft SQL Server and solving complex database and infrastructure challenges.
You're comfortable working in production environments where reliability, data integrity, and minimal downtime are critical.
You have hands-on experience with SQL Server administration, performance optimization, backup and recovery, and database security, and you're comfortable working with cloud-based database environments such as Amazon RDS for SQL Server.
You're detail-oriented and understand the importance of carefully planning, testing, and documenting production migrations.
You enjoy collaborating with developers, engineers, and clients, communicate clearly, and take ownership of your work from planning through execution and stabilization.
