Taska360 is hiring a Data Analyst in Wellington to work on a data migration project: analysing an existing SQL Server data warehouse and documenting its structures, transformations and business rules so developers can build the new Databricks-based modern data platform. Core work is reverse-engineering SQL, mapping data flows and producing technical documentation.
You will initially work on a major data migration project. We are remodelling data from our existing SQL Server data warehouse for our Databricks-based Modern Data Platform. You will analyse how data currently moves through the warehouse.
You will document the data structures, transformations and business rules that the new solution must support.
You will translate high-level business requirements into detailed data requirements and technical documentation. Data warehouse developers will use your documentation to design and build the new solution.
Your work will include:
Analysing existing SQL Server data warehouse structures and processes.
Reading and reverse-engineering stored procedures, views and complex SQL queries.
Tracing data from source systems through to warehouse and reporting outputs.
Creating data flow diagrams, source-to-target mappings and entity relationship diagrams.
Documenting data definitions, transformation rules, dependencies and lineage.
Profiling data to identify missing values, inconsistencies and data quality issues.
You will have:
Strong SQL skills, including the ability to understand complex queries, views and stored procedures.
Experience analysing or reverse-engineering existing data warehouse processes.
Experience translating high-level business requirements into detailed data requirements.
Practical experience creating data flow diagrams, source-to-target mappings and entity relationship diagrams.
Experience documenting data definitions, transformation rules, business rules and data lineage.
Experience profiling data and investigating missing, inconsistent or poor-quality data.
Knowledge of data warehouse modelling, including facts, dimensions and star schemas.
