Backend Developer

Your journey at Voys

Our Product Development team builds the tools that help businesses run their customer conversations across phone, chat, and other channels. You will join a multi-disciplinary scrum team and start writing backend code that real customers depend on, not tickets handed down a conveyor belt. You'll pick up creating real features early on, with colleagues who pair with you and review your work as you go. You'll take features from a fuzzy first idea all the way to production, then stay close to them once they're live: building, testing, shipping, and fixing what breaks.

What We're Looking For

• You are eager to learn, fast. It's something we greatly value.
• The fundamentals of programming are in place: you can find your way around an existing codebase, and you've written code that other people relied on.
• Curiosity that goes further than "it runs". You dig into how things actually work.
• Coachability: you take feedback and act on it, and you're not afraid to admit when you don’t know something.
• The ability to explain your thinking to someone who isn't a developer.
• Based in or willing to move to the Netherlands, and up for being in our Groningen office regularly. Juniors here learn fastest in the room: pairing, reviews over the shoulder, picking things up by osmosis.

It's a Bonus If You

• Have worked in Python.
• Have shipped something for real users, at work or on your own.

Our tech stack

(you don't need to know all of these, there's plenty of room to learn)

Python, FastAPI, Django, PostgreSQL, Redis, NATS, Docker, GitLab CI/CD

This Is What We Offer You

• Real ownership from early on: no manager handing you a to-do list, because Voys is steward-owned and self-managing. That's a lot of freedom, and means taking responsibility at the same time.
• A salary between €3.234 - €5.022 per month (based on a 40-hour workweek)*
• Colleagues who pair with you and review your work, so you get better faster than you would alone.
• 32 to 40 hours a week, with room to talk through what fits you.
• Willing to be in the Groningen office regularly.
• A team that grows in step with you: as you get better, so does the seniority mix of the team around you.
• No experience with Holacracy or self-managing teams needed. We'll walk you through it. The only thing we ask is that you're up for taking action yourself.
• Fair compensation starts with transparency. In line with our values of equality and openness, salaries at Voys are based on the Voys Value Model . This framework uses objective criteria related to the work, such as complexity, autonomy, impact and demonstrated skills. Salary growth follows the same transparent principles and criteria.

For this position, we expect a Junior or Medior Expert plotting, which corresponds to a salary range of €3.234 - €5.022. If your experience or strengths don't perfectly match the profile described above, we still encourage you to apply. We value diverse backgrounds and remain open to learning more about what you'd bring to Voys.
