Using their experience in the design, development and implementation of public-facing websites, the Website Design and Implementation Officer will lead the day-to-day design, content migration, testing and implementation of HCT’s new public-facing website. Working with the appointed supplier and colleagues across the Trust, the post holder will translate user needs into clear, accessible and well-structured content and pages which meet the needs of our patients, service users and other stakeholders while minimising the burden on clinical and operational services.

AdvertThe postholder will provide specialist content management system (CMS) and digital implementation expertise, coordinate engagement and approvals, and prepare staff and internal users for a safe and effective transition to the new platform. The role is hands-on and will undertake substantial content transfer, restructuring and quality assurance activity directly.
The postholder will also support the introduction and promotion of the NHS App, working with patients and services to build awareness of the App, explain its benefits and help people understand how it can support them and manage their healthcare.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Supplier coordination and implementation management
- Act as the day-to-day link between HCT and the appointed supplier for the relevant platform.
- Coordinate design, build, configuration and implementation activity, ensuring actions, decisions and dependencies are recorded and progressed.
- Maintain details implementation plans, milestones, risks, issues, decisions and dependencies, escalating concerns promptly.
- Monitor delivery against agreed timescales and quality expectations providing clear updates to the Head of Communications and project governance arrangements.
- Coordinate inputs from Communications, Digital, Information Governance, Procurement and service colleagues so supplier activity can proceed effectively.
Content audit, design and migration
- Lead content audits and migration planning for the new intranet
- Undertake substantial hands-on transfer, rewriting, restructuring, tagging and formatting of content on behalf of services, reducing the demand placed on operational and clinical teams.
- Apply agreed content principles, information architecture, navigation and templates consistently.
- Identify duplicate, outdated, inaccessible or low-value content and work with content owners to agree whether it should be amended, archived, consolidated or removed.
- Manage content migration trackers, approval records and assurance processes, maintaining a clear audit trail.
- Provide specialist CMS advice and practical support so services are not required to develop technical knowledge or complete complex migration activity themselves.
Engagement, requirements and sign-off
- Work directly with operational, corporate and clinical colleagues to gather requirements and translate them into clear, usable pages and content journeys.
- Plan and facilitate proportionate engagement with users, including workshops, interviews, demonstrations and feedback sessions.
- Coordinate operational engagement, review, approval and written sign-off, ensuring responsibilities and deadlines are clear.
- Build effective relationships across the Trust and use professional judgement to resolve competing views while agreeing standards and project scope.
- Present complex digital or technical information in an accessible way for colleagues with different levels of digital confidence.
User testing, accessibility and quality assurance
- Plan and coordinate user testing throughout design and implementation, capturing findings and ensuring agreed improvements are implemented.
- Coordinate accessibility review and support compliance with relevant public sector accessibility requirements and HCT standards.
- Undertake thorough quality assurance of content, links, documents, navigation, search results, metadata, page layouts and functionality.
- Ensure information is accurate, current, written in plain English, accessible and fit for purpose before go-live.
- Maintain defect and issue logs, retest resolved items and provide assurance ahead of go-live.
Training, transition and go-live
- Work with the supplier and internal colleagues to coordinate training for administrators, editors, content owners and other relevant users.
- Develop or adapt practical guidance, templates, checklists and support materials.
- Coordinate go-live readiness, cutover and transitional activity, including final content freezes, checks, communications and contingency arrangements.
- Provide responsive implementation support during launch and the immediate post-launch period, triaging issues and coordinating resolution.
- Support the transfer of knowledge into business-as-usual arrangements so the platform can be managed safely and sustainably after the fixed-term post ends.
Capacity protection and team contribution
- Take ownership of significant day-to-day project management activity for the intranet workstream, working closely with the project manager overseeing the wider project.
- Take ownership of implementation activity, reducing the requirement for communications colleagues to absorb this work alongside their core responsibilities.
- Design and deliver implementation activity in a way that protects clinical and operational capacity and keeps requests of services focused, proportionate and well organised.
- Contribute flexibly to wider Communications Team priorities where these are directly connected to successful implementation and adoption of the new platform.
- Maintain high standards of confidentiality, information governance, professionalism and customer service.
NHS App awareness and adoption
- Support HCT’s introduction and promotion of the NHS App as part of the wider digital patient experience.
- Work with patients, service users, carers and services to understand awareness, information needs and potential barriers to using the NHS App.
- Develop and coordinate clear, accessible communications that explain the NHS App, the benefits it can offer and where people can obtain support.
- Ensure website content and relevant patient-facing materials signpost the NHS App accurately and consistently.
