The Warehouse Department Specialist position serves as a subject matter expert within an assigned warehouse department. This role is responsible for supporting daily operations through hands-on expertise, on-the-floor guidance, and knowledge sharing. The Specialist works closely with new and existing employees to reinforce proper processes, ensure operational consistency, and support performance improvement, safety, and efficiency within the department. This position reports to the Assistant Department Manager, Department Manager, or Warehouse & Safety Trainer, and provides functional guidance, coaching, and peer support but does not carry direct people-management authority.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.
Serves as a subject matter expert for assigned warehouse department functions.
Supports onboarding and on-the-job training of new hires by demonstrating proper work methods, safety practices, and productivity standards.
Provides ongoing coaching and guidance to existing employees to reinforce best practices and address performance gaps.
Partners with department leadership to identify skill gaps, process inefficiencies, and training opportunities.
Assists in developing and updating departmental job aids, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training materials.
Monitors employee adherence to safety standards, quality expectations, and company policies.
Serves as a point of contact for operational questions and process clarification within the department.
Supports cross-training efforts to improve workforce flexibility and coverage.
Maintains awareness of workflow changes, system updates, and operational improvements impacting the department.
Promotes a safety-first culture and immediately escalates safety concerns or process risks.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

In-depth knowledge of warehouse operations and departmental workflows.
Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly explain processes and expectations.
Ability to coach, mentor, and positively influence peers.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and operational needs.
Comfortable learning and utilizing warehouse systems and technology.
Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding employee performance and operational matters.
Flexible schedule, including the ability to work weekends as needed.
Minimum of 2 years of warehouse experience, including shipping, receiving, order fulfillment, stock replenishment, inventory control, or safety-related functions.
Prior experience serving as a lead, trainer, or go-to resource preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively in English; bilingual Spanish preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and internet-based tools.
Experience with SAP, WMS, or similar warehouse management systems preferred.
PIT experience preferred.
High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree preferred.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of standing and walking on the warehouse floor.
Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer, as needed.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
Ability to access and navigate all areas of the warehouse facility.
Ability to safely access and operate company equipment, as required.

Compensation
$22 per hour
Actual compensation is based on multiple factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, level of relevant experience, and specific work location. Salary ranges for positions based in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.
