The Fund Banking Relationship Manager will develop and establish a book of new business from relationships across the Private Equity, Venture Capital and Emerging Manager Community. This position is responsible for contributing to the Fund & Sponsor Banking Team’s deposit & loan growth in all aspects of lending activities including negotiating, underwriting and coordinating the closing of a variety of complex company loans in compliance with the Bank’s lending policies and procedures. Fund Banking at Grasshopper Bank includes the full suite of Fund Finance products including Capital Call Lines, Warehouse Facilities, Management Company Working Capital Facilities, GP Loans, and NAV Facilities.
Responsibilities include:
- New business development within the Private Equity, Venture Capital and Emerging Manager Community; executes on business development strategies and tactics
- Strong understanding on how to position and structure loans across the full Fund Finance product suite
- Builds deep relationships with referral sources & target Funds to promote and sell Fund Banking products & services to establish and expand book of business
- Develops and maintains a robust pipeline of opportunities. Uses CRM tools such as Salesforce to track business development activities including but not limited to deal activities and investor calls
- Leads initial sales & engagement calls with prospective clients and requests specific information related to loan request; guides prospective client through due diligence and underwriting phases in partnership with a credit associate
- Performs analysis of financial condition and initial risk assessment within the framework of the Bank credit policies, current economic and industry trends
- Gathers all information necessary to present a financing recommendation to Credit Committee for approval; negotiates loan terms & conditions
- Coordinates closing of approved loans; ensures loans are in compliance with loan agreement, client needs & conforms to Bank lending policies at loan close
- Primary Relationship Manager post loan closing, responsible for ongoing management of the client relationship plan and partnering with loan operations, client services and other internal teams to ensure client-first experience. Elevates product and service issues to senior management related to less than satisfactory client experience
- Maintains an ongoing superior knowledge of Fund Banking industry status, trends and competitive landscape
- Represents the Bank in various community and industry specific functions to further enhance the Bank’s image and develop additional business; assists the Bank in establishing and maintaining market position
- 5 to 10 years experience consisting of a strong Fund Finance background including origination, negotiation, underwriting and coordinating the closing of Fund Finance loans
- Extensive experience in all facets of relationship management of high value clients
- Knowledge and experience in financial statement and tax return analysis; deep knowledge of Fund documentation
- Demonstrated ability to use generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot) to speed up work like partner due diligence, document review, analysis and drafting, while checking the output for accuracy
- Demonstrated ability to use AI responsibly in a regulated environment, including protecting customer data and managing privacy and model risk, and to judge how fintech partners use AI in onboarding, fraud and customer service
- Strong understanding of Bank treasury management services, lending procedures, policies, and other products & services utilized by Fund Banking clients
- Knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations (preferably OCC experience), and other Bank operational policies
- Strong experience working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Finance, Accounting or other related field
