Role Summary
The client is seeking a Senior UX Designer to design intuitive, accessible, user-centered digital experiences for web and mobile applications.
The successful candidate will be responsible for end-to-end UX design, including user research, stakeholder engagement, information architecture, user flows, wireframing, prototyping, usability testing, and iterative design.
The role requires someone who can work closely with business stakeholders, developers, QA specialists, and other cross-functional teams, while effectively translating user and business requirements into practical, visually appealing digital experiences.
Key Responsibilities
1. UX/UI Design
2. User Research & Usability
- Conduct end-to-end user research.
- Plan and conduct:
- User interviews
- Surveys
- Questionnaires
- User testing
- Stakeholder consultations
- Translate research findings into actionable UX improvements.
- Gather user feedback and use it to configure and improve existing interfaces.
- Rapidly test, evaluate, and iterate designs based on user feedback.
3. Stakeholder & Workshop Leadership
- Define and lead UX projects.
- Facilitate UX design workshops and stakeholder alignment sessions.
- Work directly with business users and stakeholders to understand requirements.
- Facilitate the client's product vision through research, ideation, sketching, prototyping, and testing.
- Manage competing priorities and maintain strong client relationships.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with:
- Business stakeholders
- Product/project teams
- Developers
- QA specialists
- Other UX/UI professionals
Translate UX concepts and requirements into clear, actionable information for development teams.
5. Documentation & Communication
- Prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive UX documentation.
- Produce reports, reviews, assessments, and design documentation.
- Clearly communicate design concepts and development processes to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Present UX recommendations and design decisions effectively.
Requirements
Must-Have Requirements
Candidates must demonstrate experience in the following areas:
1. UX/UI Design
- Experience creating GUI designs based on user interaction and performance.
- Experience working as a:
- UX Designer
- UI Designer
- Interactive Designer
- Product Designer
- Similar UX/UI role
- Experience designing for web and mobile applications.
2. UX Leadership
- Ability to define and lead UX projects.
- Experience leading:
- UX workshops
- Design workshops
- Stakeholder alignment sessions
- Business-user sessions
3. Design Tools
- Strong experience with Figma.
- Experience with Canva or similar design/prototyping tools.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with:
- Developers
- QA specialists
- Business stakeholders
- Cross-functional project teams
Nice-to-Have / Desirable Skills
Government / Public Sector
- Prior Ontario Public Service (OPS) experience.
- Previous Canadian public-sector experience.
- Experience working within government digital-service environments.
Ontario Design & Accessibility
- Experience with the Ontario Design System.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Digital Service Standard.
- Knowledge of accessibility testing.
- Experience designing according to WCAG 2.1 AA.
- Accessibility-first UX/UI design experience.
Complex UX Environments
- Experience working with legacy systems.
- Experience handling complex design challenges.
- Experience working with multiple stakeholder groups.
- Experience navigating complex approval and governance processes.
