Your Job
Join our team as a Test Software Engineer - Development with Python in Guadalajara, where you will play a key role in supporting and developing the test area to ensure operational continuity, efficiency, and technical excellence. In this role, you will directly contribute to keeping production lines running, troubleshooting issues, and driving improvements through data-driven analysis and technical expertise.
Build robust, scalable test systems that ensure product quality, accelerate time-to-market, and enable confident high-volume manufacturing. You will develop and maintain test infrastructure, drive data-driven improvements, and support cross-functional readiness for product launch.
Our Team:
You will be part of the OPTO division working closely with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Product Engineering to transfer and scale testing strategies into production. The team focuses on reliable test execution, continuous improvement, and ensuring testability across product lifecycles.
What you will do
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable Python desktop applications used by manufacturing engineers to ensure performance, yield, and reliability.
- Support Design for Testability (DFT) and influence product design to improve testability and manufacturability.
- Partner with R&D, manufacturing, quality, and product engineering to ensure seamless product launch readiness and test transfer to high-volume manufacturing with robust documentation and training.
- Create and deliver statistical reports and analyses (Pareto charts, box plots, Cpk calculations, pivot tables) to inform decisions and drive continuous improvement.
- Own and run daily production/scrap meetings and participate in escalation calls at any time as needed
- Integrate software with test hardware and automation — instruments, fixtures so a configured process can run reliably in production.
- Support global manufacturing centers: reproduce failures, ship fixes, and make the tools usable for people who are not software developers.
- Participate in the full development cycle: requirements, design, implementation, code review, verification and validation, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
- This position requires full-time on-site presence.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Computer, Computer Science, Mechatronic Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 5+ years’ experience building and owning software that talks to physical hardware — measurement instruments, microcontrollers, sensors, or similar devices — not only software-to-software integrations.
- Experience with Git and a defect-tracking system such as Jira.
- Working knowledge of software verification and validation techniques (automated testing, integration tests, and checking work against requirements).
- PySide (or a similar Python GUI framework) for desktop applications.
- Comfort in a lab or on a manufacturing floor: supporting operators, reproducing hardware-in-the-loop failures, and traveling to plants as needed.
- Experience with instrument or device I/O (VISA, SCPI, serial, or similar).
- Ability to apply scientific Python to user-facing applications: NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, and a conda-based workflow.
- Building reusable libraries, APIs, or configuration-driven frameworks that other engineers and testers use.
- Clear written and verbal communication with non-software customers (manufacturing, test, and product engineers).
- Programming in LabVIEW is a plus.
- Strong English communication skills (approximately 90% English proficiency required).
- Experience with statistical data analysis and reporting (Pareto, box plots, Cpk, pivot tables).
- Able and willing to attend escalation calls outside normal hours when required.
What Will Put You Ahead:
- Demonstrated experience transferring test processes into high-volume manufacturing with documented training packages.
- Hands-on experience maintaining test equipment and managing spare parts lifecycle.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional problem solving and implement corrective/preventive actions that improve yield.
- Experience working in an OPTO or semiconductor-like manufacturing environment.
