We are looking for an experienced Technical Leader who is passionate about building scalable, high-quality software, and creating the kind of engineering team where talented people can grow, collaborate, and do their best work.
In this role, you will combine technical leadership with hands-on development. You will guide the technical direction of the team, mentor engineers, strengthen engineering practices, and help create an environment that attracts strong talent and supports long-term team growth. You will also play a key role in shaping both our platform architecture and product vision.
To succeed in this role, you are comfortable leading in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where teams, products, and priorities evolve quickly. You know that strong engineering outcomes come from clear direction, high standards, effective collaboration, and a culture where people are trusted to take ownership. You take a proactive approach to problem-solving, enjoy finding smarter and more efficient ways of working through AI and automation, and consistently enable the team to deliver high-quality results with speed and precision.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers, helping individuals grow while establishing best practices, coding standards, and a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
- Build an attractive and collaborative engineering environment where developers can perform at their best, develop their capabilities, and make a meaningful impact.
- Strengthen the team’s technical capabilities and ways of working as the organisation grows.
- Architect, develop, and maintain scalable applications across both frontend and backend systems.
- Build modern user-facing applications using React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
- Design and develop reliable backend services, APIs, integrations, and data flows using Node.js and TypeScript.
- Set clear technical direction and take ownership of the overall technical roadmap, balancing delivery speed, scalability, maintainability, and code quality.
- Create clarity around technical priorities and empower engineers to take ownership of solutions and outcomes.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Ensure the performance, security, reliability, and availability of applications and services, with a strong focus on maintainability and zero-downtime deployments.
- Leverage AI tools and emerging technologies to increase team efficiency, improve the developer experience, and enhance the end-user product.
- Lead technical discussions, evaluate new technologies, and proactively identify opportunities to improve and evolve our technology stack.
- Contribute hands-on throughout the development lifecycle, including solution design, implementation, code reviews, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement.
Skills & Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in software development, with at least 4 years in a lead role.
- Strong fullstack development experience, with the ability to work confidently across frontend and backend systems.
- Deep knowledge of JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Strong proficiency in React and Next.js.
- Solid experience developing backend services and APIs using Node.js and frameworks such as Express or NestJS.
- Good understanding of databases, system integrations, cloud infrastructure, and modern software architecture.
- Demonstrated experience using AI tools and workflows to improve the development process and enable teams to work faster and smarter.
- Experience leading or mentoring developers, conducting code reviews, establishing engineering standards, and setting technical direction.
- Strong understanding of software quality, security, performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Experience working closely with product and design teams to turn business and user needs into effective technical solutions.
Professional Attributes
- A people-focused technical leader who understands how clear expectations, trust, feedback, and strong engineering practices help teams grow and perform.
- Passionate about creating an engineering culture where talented people feel challenged, supported, and motivated to contribute.
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment and remains focused and effective under pressure, with the ability to prioritise, adapt, and deliver without losing sight of quality.
- A proactive problem solver who anticipates challenges, takes initiative, and drives solutions before issues escalate.
- Comfortable combining hands-on development with team leadership and strategic technical decision-making.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clarity, lead technical conversations, and build strong collaboration across cross-functional teams.
- Open to feedback and committed to supporting both personal and professional development, for yourself and the engineers around you.
