Hands-on systems engineering role in Auckland supporting infrastructure, cloud, DevOps and CI/CD across customer and internal environments. Day-to-day work spans Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, Ansible), container platforms (Kubernetes, OpenShift, Rancher) and multi-cloud (Azure/M365, AWS, GCP, IBM Cloud).
SAS is looking for a Systems Engineer – DevOps & Automation to join our Growth Technology team.
This is a hands-on technical role for someone who enjoys solving problems, improving technology environments and using automation to make systems more reliable, secure and efficient.
You’ll work across infrastructure, cloud, DevOps, automation, container platforms and CI/CD, supporting a range of customer and internal environments.
Support systems, infrastructure, DevOps, automation and CI/CD environments.
Implement secure, reliable and scalable infrastructure solutions.
Build and maintain automation and CI/CD pipelines.
Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform, Bicep and Ansible.
Work with container platforms including Kubernetes, OpenShift and Rancher.
Automate manual and repetitive operational processes.
Troubleshoot infrastructure, deployment and automation issues.
Configure, maintain and support hybrid and cloud infrastructure.
Work with technologies including Microsoft Azure/M365, AWS, GCP and IBM Cloud.
Monitor system availability, performance, capacity and security.
Diagnose and resolve infrastructure, networking and platform issues.
Apply SAS security and operational standards.
Improve reliability and efficiency through automation, monitoring and standardisation.
Work collaboratively with customers, internal teams and technology vendors.
Provide technical input into solution design and implementation.
Participate in incident management, troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
Maintain clear technical documentation and share knowledge with the wider team.
We’re looking for someone with a solid technical foundation who enjoys working hands-on, taking ownership and developing their skills.
Ideally, you’ll have:
3–5 years’ experience in systems engineering, infrastructure, DevOps, automation or a related field.
Experience supporting production infrastructure and platforms.
Experience with DevOps, CI/CD and infrastructure automation.
Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, Rancher or similar technologies.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code and configuration management.
Strong scripting and automation skills.
Experience with cloud or hybrid infrastructure environments.
Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Understanding of infrastructure security, resilience and best practice.
Good communication and collaboration skills.
Experience with Microsoft Azure/M365, AWS, GCP and/or IBM Cloud is an advantage.
Relevant tertiary qualifications and industry certifications in cloud, DevOps, automation or infrastructure are desirable.
