The Monetization team’s mission is to help more learners discover and experience the value of Quizlet while building a sustainable business that allows us to invest in learning for the long term. The team is supported by Machine Learning and Data Engineering teams that partner with data scientists to ensure we are building a data-driven culture.
Within this team, this role sits inside Monetization -- the group responsible for subscriptions, ads, and growth -- where data science is the backbone of how we understand and grow revenue.
As the Lead Data Scientist on Monetization, you won’t just analyze data or surface insights—you’ll have end-to-end ownership alongside Product and Engineering. You’ll use data to identify opportunities, develop hypotheses, design experiments, and help shape the solutions we build. You’ll also have the opportunity to build models, work directly with engineers to productionize them, and see their impact on learners and the business in real time.
This is a role for a Data Scientist who wants to be a builder: someone who can move fluidly from insight → hypothesis → model → production → measurable impact, working side-by-side with the team throughout the entire lifecycle.
We’re happy to share that this is a hybrid position. To help foster team collaboration, we require that employees be in the office at a minimum of three days a week: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and as needed by your manager or the company. We believe that this working environment facilitates increased work efficiency, team partnership, and supports growth as an employee and organization.
You will define and execute the end-to-end data science roadmap for user monetization. subscriptions, ads, and growth, driving business insights through data at a company-wide level
Build and scale the experimentation program for pricing, paywall, and checkout tests -- from inception through measurement, analysis, and synthesized recommendation -- and ensure every test has a clear, timely readout
Own the data behind ad monetization decisions, including the pipelines and reconciliation that turn raw ad-server and vendor data into the revenue numbers for Finance
Apply causal inference to growth and marketing initiatives that can’t be A/B tested, and champion rigorous measurement wherever growth investments are made
Drive the long-term vision for internal analytics tooling, experimentation platforms, and feature engineering pipelines.
Act as the connective tissue between Product, Engineering, Design, Finance, and Marketing on monetization strategy, translating research into concrete recommendations for company leadership
Mentor and level up other data scientists working across the monetization domain, and drive maturity and excellence in how we measure the success of the business
6+ years of experience in data science at a consumer internet or subscription/ads-driven company, including demonstrated Staff-level scope and impact
Deep experience with A/B testing and pricing/paywall experimentation, and using statistical techniques for modeling and predicting user and revenue behavior
Proven track record owning monetization strategy (subscriptions, ads, or growth) end-to-end, from analysis to leadership recommendation
Experience using Airflow to build resilient ETLs, dashboards, and revenue-reconciliation pipelines that the business relies on to close the books
Advanced SQL skills (window functions, sub-queries, etc.) and comfort partnering directly with Data Engineering on pipeline design
Experience with dbt
Expertise in Python for data manipulation and analyses
Track record of setting analytical standards and mentoring other data scientists across a team or org
Degree in Math, Physics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or other quantitative fields
Strong communication skills: able to synthesize, visualize, and present complex revenue and experimentation findings to executive leadership
Experience with ad-tech vendors, programmatic revenue reconciliation, or subscription billing systems
Advanced Degree in Math, Physics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or other quantitative fields
Collaborate with your manager and team to create a healthy work-life balance
