This is a Staff-level role for someone who still wants to build.
We’re working with a business looking for a Platform Engineer to take ownership of a complex AWS environment and help shape what the platform looks like next.
You’ll be working across an existing AWS estate that needs to be simplified, consolidated and improved, with a strong focus on ECS, Fargate, Terraform, CI/CD, security, networking and automation. This is not a people-management role. You’ll be expected to be 100% hands on, making technical decisions and solving difficult infrastructure problems yourself.
What you’ll work on
Own the design and evolution of the AWS platform
Consolidate and migrate AWS accounts and environments
Build and maintain infrastructure using Terraform
Work across ECS and Fargate
Improve CI/CD and infrastructure deployment patterns
Automate repeatable platform and operational work
Improve IAM, security, networking and cloud governance
Review existing infrastructure and decide what should be retained, migrated, rebuilt or replaced
Improve infrastructure testing, reliability and operational resilience
Troubleshoot complex production and platform issues
Set engineering standards and influence technical direction across the environment
What we’re looking for
Ideally, you’ll bring:
Deep hands-on AWS experience
Terraform / Infrastructure as Code
Production experience with ECS / Fargate
Experience with AWS networking, IAM, security and multi-account environments
CI/CD and infrastructure automation experience
Scripting or programming capability using Python, Bash or similar
Experience testing and troubleshooting infrastructure
Experience with AWS migrations, consolidation or major cloud rebuilds
The ability to make senior technical decisions while remaining hands-on
That means writing Terraform modules, building automation, working with deployment pipelines, scripting, testing infrastructure changes and troubleshooting AWS environments.
Why this role?
There is a significant amount of engineering work to solve.
You’ll be joining an environment where there is an opportunity to review what exists today, simplify the AWS estate, improve the foundations and influence how the platform is built and operated going forward.
It should suit a Staff or Principal-level Platform Engineer who wants technical ownership without moving away from hands-on engineering.
