Software Factory – Build the Future of Software Engineering

Want to influence the bigger picture? At Saab, you can realise amazing innovations that keep people and societies safe. Together, we can truly make an impact – and your part matters.

Your role

The future competitiveness of every technology-driven organisation depends not only on the digital products it builds, but on how effectively it can build, deliver and evolve software. That is why we are investing in a Software Factory with a clear mission: to create the engineering capabilities that enable software development at scale.

We build the platforms, automation, developer experiences, AI-enabled capabilities and engineering foundations that allow product teams to focus on innovation and value creation rather than complexity and manual processes.

We are now looking for experienced engineers and specialists who want to help shape the next generation of software development.

This is not an advertisement for a specific role. It is an opportunity to join a mission where engineering excellence, platform thinking, automation and AI come together to transform how software is developed across an entire organisation.

About Software Factory

Software Factory is the engineering engine behind modern digital product development. Our mission is to enable hundreds of engineers and development teams to deliver value faster, with higher quality, greater reliability and increased confidence. We view software development as a capability that can continuously be improved through automation, standardisation, intelligent platforms and data-driven learning.

That is why we build:

• Modern developer platforms and self-service capabilities
• Automated software delivery pipelines
• CI/CD capabilities and engineering toolchains
• Quality engineering and testing platforms
• AI-enhanced development workflows
• Shared engineering practices and standards
• Scalable platform and systems capabilities

Our objective is simple, make it easier for development teams to build exceptional products. We do not primarily build solutions for end users.

We build capabilities for the teams that build the products of the future.

Areas Where You Can Contribute

We are looking for experienced specialists who want to contribute within one or more of the following domains.

Customer Experience (CX)

You are passionate about enabling digital experiences that combine customer value, technical excellence and rapid adaptability. You understand how platforms, engineering practices and product development influence the overall customer experience throughout the product lifecycle.

Backstage Development

You see Backstage as much more than a developer portal.

You want to create a central platform where engineering teams can discover, document, provision and manage services through self-service experiences. Through platform development, integrations and custom plugins, you help improve Developer Experience and accelerate software delivery across the organization.

Software Supply Chain

You are driven by strengthening the integrity, traceability and security of software delivery. By combining automation, governance and modern engineering practices, you contribute to building a software supply chain that is secure, scalable and designed for continuous delivery.

CI/CD and DevOps

You thrive on improving the flow from idea to production.

Through automation, modern delivery practices and platform engineering, you help reduce lead times, increase deployment confidence and create faster feedback loops for development teams.

Developer Workbench and Developer Platforms

You want to make developers more effective.

By building self-service capabilities, engineering platforms, integrated development environments and intelligent tooling, you create a developer experience that enables productivity, consistency and innovation at scale.

Test Automation and Quality Engineering

You see quality as an integral part of the development process.

You work with automated verification, quality engineering, observability and continuous feedback mechanisms that enable teams to identify issues earlier and improve product quality continuously.

Systems Engineering

You enjoy working in technically complex environments where systems thinking matters. You contribute to architecture, integration, reliability, performance and scalability, ensuring that technology ecosystems function effectively across products, platforms and organizational boundaries.

Agentic Coding and AI Engineering

You are excited about how AI is transforming software engineering.

You explore and implement AI agents, generative AI and AI-assisted development capabilities that improve productivity, automate engineering workflows and redefine how software is designed, developed, tested and maintained.

Embedded Engineering

You are passionate about building software for embedded systems and connected products. Whether it is low-level development, operating systems, communication protocols, or application functionality, you enjoy solving technical challenges close to the hardware.

You know what it takes and have the interest to accelerate the development of an embedded products at scale.

Examples of Challenges You May Work On

As part of Software Factory, you will work on challenges whose impact extends far beyond individual applications or teams.

Examples include:

• Building next-generation internal developer platforms.
• Establishing Backstage as the central hub for Developer Experience and engineering self-service.
• Creating AI-enhanced engineering workflows powered by intelligent agents and coding assistants.
• Modernising software delivery through automated CI/CD ecosystems.
• Developing secure and scalable Software Supply Chain capabilities.
• Improving engineering productivity through Developer Workbench concepts and platform services.
• Scaling test automation and quality engineering across large development organisations.
• Building cloud-native platform capabilities designed for resilience and scale.
• Creating observability, telemetry and engineering intelligence capabilities that support continuous improvement.
• Defining future engineering standards, architecture principles and software delivery patterns.

The common thread is impact. We build capabilities that create a multiplier effect, enabling many teams to deliver better software, faster.

Your profile

You likely bring several years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, systems development, DevOps, automation, testing, infrastructure, cloud technologies or related disciplines.

You are motivated by:

• Solving complex technical challenges with lasting impact.
• Building scalable capabilities used by many teams.
• Improving engineering practices as much as technology itself.
• Replacing manual processes with intelligent automation.
• Exploring emerging technologies and turning them into practical outcomes.
• Collaborating across disciplines to solve meaningful problems.
• Contributing to a culture of engineering excellence, learning and continuous improvement.

You are comfortable navigating between technical depth and systems-level thinking, and you enjoy working in environments where technology is recognised as a strategic differentiator.

This position requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations around/of security protection. For positions requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply.

Why Join Us

Joining Software Factory means contributing to something larger than a single application, product or team. You will become part of an organization that views engineering excellence, developer experience, automation and AI as fundamental capabilities for future success.

Here, you will have the opportunity to:

• Work on technical challenges at scale.
• Shape the next generation of developer platforms.
• Explore and implement AI-enhanced ways of working.
• Collaborate with experienced engineers, architects and technology leaders.
