Software Engineering Intern - OpenShift AI (Dublin office, Ireland)

The Red Hat OpenShift AI (RHOAI) team is looking for a Software Engineer Intern to join us in Ireland. Our focus is to create a platform, partner ecosystem, and community by which enterprise customers can solve problems to accelerate business success using AI. This is a very exciting opportunity to build and impact the next generation of hybrid cloud MLOps platforms, contribute to the development of the RHOAI product, participate in open source communities, and be at the forefront of the exciting evolution of AI. You’ll join an ecosystem that fosters continuous learning, career growth, and professional development.

At Red Hat, you’ll work in an environment that welcomes diverse perspectives, values great ideas, and empowers individuals to contribute meaningfully. Freedom and courage are two of our core values — which means you’ll have the space to take risks, explore the unknown, and grow your strengths. But being a Red Hatter is not just about bravery; it’s also about commitment and follow-through.

Red Hat’s Intern Program is a collaborative effort between the Emerging Talent team and our intern managers. The program is designed to offer a meaningful and well-rounded experience — combining professional development, networking opportunities, social engagement, and impactful work. This is a paid, full-time internship based in the Dublin office, with flexible working hours. The expected start date is January 2027.

What you will do:

• Perform engineering tasks under the direction of an experienced engineer

• Become an active member of an agile development team, both scrum and kanban

• Learn to collaborate and innovate with other engineers in your team

• Troubleshoot technical issues and help deliver creative solutions

• Work both on your own, remotely, and collaboratively with others in your team

• Help mentor a transition year student, transferring your learned skills to the younger students

• Contribute to the open-source community

• Present a topic, not always technical, to the Cloud Services team at one or more of our Lunch & Learn events

• Proactively utilize AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) for code generation, auto-completion, and intelligent suggestions to accelerate development cycles and enhance code quality.

What you will bring:

• Currently enrolled in an accredited university degree in computer science or a related technical field within the Republic of Ireland, with full-time availability from January through August 2027 for the entire internship duration.

• Growth mindset; willingness to learn and challenge yourself

• Ability to give and receive feedback in a meaningful manner

• Passion for problem-solving and debugging technical issues

• Some working knowledge/understanding of Git usage and workflows (Git workshops are provided for all interns when they join).

• A good understanding of scripting and programming with languages such Python, Golang

• A basic understanding or knowledge of Linux operating systems

• Some understanding of configuration management, automation tools, and containerisation technologies.

• Active online presence (e.g. GitHub) with interest in community development is a plus.

• Working knowledge of written and spoken English

Due to the limited number of internship opportunities and the high volume of applications, we may not be able to speak with every candidate. To maximize your chances of moving forward in the process, please ensure your CV clearly outlines your education, relevant projects (link to your git.hub account), and extracurricular activities.

Please apply for a maximum of three internship roles that best match your interests and skills.
