Kearfott Corporation is seeking a Software Engineering Co-Op to join our team in Pine Brook, NJ. The selected candidate will support Kearfott’s Software Engineering organization, working closely with experienced software, systems, and test engineers in a hands-on environment focused on embedded software development, hardware integration, and product verification.
The Co-Op will gain practical experience developing and testing software for embedded systems used in aerospace and defense applications. Responsibilities may include:
Support the development, integration, and verification of embedded software and firmware.
Assist with software-hardware integration, including the evaluation of interfaces between embedded software, electronic hardware, sensors, and test equipment.
Develop, revise, and execute software test instructions, test procedures, and verification plans.
Support the coordination of system assembly, integration, and testing activities.
Analyze test and measurement data and document results in software and engineering databases.
Develop scripts, tools, and automated test capabilities to improve software verification and engineering workflows.
Troubleshoot software and system issues using test data, logs, debugging techniques, and engineering analysis.
Work with engineering teams to interpret test results, identify problems, and recommend corrective actions.
Review technical data and assess software and system performance against requirements.
Develop graphs and other visualizations to communicate analysis results.
Prepare technical reports and briefings describing the results and significance of analyses performed.
Contribute to process improvements, software tools, documentation, and test methods.
Demonstrated creative problem-solving and analytical skills.
Fundamental understanding of software development and programming concepts.
Interest in embedded systems, firmware, real-time software, or software-hardware integration.
Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, requirements, schematics, and test data.
Strong oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Minimum GPA of 3.2.
Coursework or project experience in C or C++.
Experience with Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW.
Familiarity with microcontrollers, embedded processors, real-time operating systems, or embedded Linux.
Exposure to software debugging, version control, automated testing, or continuous integration.
Experience developing scripts for data analysis, test automation, or engineering tools.
General knowledge of mathematical modeling and analysis methods.
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related engineering or scientific discipline.
Coursework, projects, or demonstrated interest in embedded software, firmware, computer engineering, digital design, systems analysis, systems integration, guidance and control, or related technical areas.
Academic or practical experience that provides a foundation for developing expertise in embedded software development and verification.
Ability to work full-time, 40 hours per week, during the 2026 Fall Semester.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
The salary range is $20.00 - $30.00/hour. The final compensation amount will be determined based on factors such as experience level, skill set, school year, major, etc.
