We are seeking a Software Engineer to support a U.S. Navy program in Portsmouth, VA. This position will provide software development, system integration, and Navy Shipyard IT systems support for the Naval Shipyard Support Office (NSSO).
The Software Engineer will develop and maintain custom software applications and analytics tools that support decision-making across naval shipyard operations. This role will also support IT system development, deployment, and integration efforts while creating custom code, queries, and macros for ship maintenance metrics and performance reporting.
Design and develop software applications that support shipyard operations and maintenance tracking requirements.
Perform coding, debugging, testing, and troubleshooting throughout the application development process to ensure reliable and efficient software solutions.
Develop custom code, queries, macros, and data analytics applications in support of ship maintenance performance objectives.
Support development and maintenance activities for enterprise IT software solutions, ensuring system reliability and functionality.
Assist with IT development, deployment, and release assessments to validate software readiness and compliance with established standards.
Develop software supporting corporate metrics, dashboards, and data visualizations that enable leadership decision-making and performance monitoring.
Support software portfolio decision-making and development planning activities.
Implement data integration solutions across multiple shipyard IT systems to ensure seamless information flow and data consistency.
Support digital transformation initiatives and user experience analysis, identifying opportunities for modernization and improvement.
Participate in program reviews and IT management meetings, providing technical expertise and development status updates.
Evaluate software application functionality and user training effectiveness and recommend enhancements based on stakeholder feedback and performance data.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
4–7 years of progressive software development or software engineering experience.
Active Secret security clearance.
U.S. citizenship.
Experience supporting U.S. Navy IT programs and initiatives.
Strong knowledge of Navy Shipyard IT systems and enterprise applications supporting naval maintenance and repair operations, including familiarity with Activity Inventory Management (AIM) and Navy Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (N-MRO).
4+ years of hands-on database development using SQL and application programming.
Experience with web development technologies and data visualization tools.
Experience with software development methodologies, system integration, and Agile development frameworks.
Ability to meet applicable Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF) training and certification requirements.
Ability to appropriately handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
Willingness and ability to travel as required, including CONUS and OCONUS travel.
Experience with Qlik.
Experience with Power BI.
Experience with Power Apps.
Experience with Palantir Foundry.
Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Candidates with experience across Qlik, Power BI, and Power Apps are especially desirable. These tools are highly preferred but are not absolute requirements for consideration. Candidates must still demonstrate strong knowledge of Navy Shipyard IT systems and the applications supporting naval maintenance and repair operations.
