About the Role
Want your code to move real things? At Sun Print Solutions, the software you write doesn't just sit in a dashboard. It drives production equipment, connects systems, and keeps orders moving across our print floor. We're looking for a Software Engineer who wants real ownership, a modern stack, and the chance to lead how AI gets used in a real-world operation.
As a primary internal developer, you'll have a large say in how things get built. You'll automate workflows, modernize legacy code into TypeScript, and build practical AI tools, including LLM integrations and RAG systems, that people across the company use every day.
What You’ll Do
- Build automation that powers production. You'll design and maintain integrations that move data between our internal systems and production equipment using JSON, XML, and JDF.
- Lead our AI work. You'll build LLM API integrations, retrieval (RAG) systems with vector search, and internal AI tools. You'll also help evaluate AI vendors, shape our AI policies, and coach teammates on using AI well.
- Modernize the codebase. You'll refactor legacy Python, C#, and Visual Basic applications into a clean TypeScript/Node.js stack.
- Ship internal web apps. You'll build and improve tools like our proofing and approval workflows.
- Keep things healthy. You'll use Git/GitHub workflows, pull requests, and unit testing to keep our code reliable and maintainable.
- Influence the industry. You'll represent Sun Print in our print management system provider's AI development guild, helping shape the tools our industry uses.
- Be the go-to technical partner. You'll troubleshoot production issues and work with production staff, IT, analysts, and outside vendors. Occasional after-hours support is needed for critical production issues.
What You Bring
- 3-5 years of professional software development experience
- Strong TypeScript skills, including async programming
- Experience integrating systems through APIs and file-based data exchange
- Working knowledge of SQL, JSON, and XML
- Hands-on experience building with LLM APIs, including calling models from code, prompt design, and handling structured output
- Comfort with Git and GitHub (branching, PRs, resolving merge conflicts)
- Experience writing unit tests for JavaScript/TypeScript
- The ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical coworkers
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Bonus points for experience with any of these: RAG and vector databases, Enfocus Switch or similar workflow automation platforms, JDF or other print industry standards, REST API design, React, Linux/Windows command line, or refactoring legacy C#, Python, or VB.
Why You'll Like It Here
- Stability with momentum. You'll join a company with more than 80 years in business that's investing seriously in modern technology and AI.
- You'll have direct influence over architecture, tooling, and AI strategy, without layers of approval.
- You'll see your work running on the production floor.
- Modern, AI-forward work. You'll build with current LLM and RAG technology in a real business setting.
