Software Engineer

The Role:

Joining Moderna offers the unique opportunity to be part of a pioneering team that's revolutionizing medicine through mRNA technology, with a diverse pipeline of development programs across various diseases. As an employee, you'll be part of a continually growing organization, working alongside exceptional colleagues and strategic partners worldwide, contributing to global health initiatives. Moderna's commitment to advancing the technological frontier of mRNA medicines ensures a challenging and rewarding career experience, with the potential to make a significant impact on patients' lives worldwide. Moderna is solidifying its presence within our international business services hub in Warsaw, Poland, a city renowned for its rich scientific and technological heritage. This hub provides critical functions, meeting the growing demand of Moderna’s global business operations. We're inviting professionals from around the world to join our mission and contribute to the future of mRNA medicines.

Moderna is looking for a hands‑on, impact‑driven candidate to build and evolve the foundations that help application teams develop, deploy, and operate software effectively. This is an individual contributor role within our Warsaw hub that collaborates directly with developers ("Builders") to provide scalable, secure, and user‑focused platform capabilities.

This is a high‑growth opportunity for engineers who want to expand their scope beyond application development and gain hands‑on experience across the full lifecycle of modern software systems—from design and implementation to cloud infrastructure, deployment, and production operations. In this role, you will write software and automation that improves developer experience and accelerates delivery. You will also help build internal services, AI agents, cloud infrastructure in AWS, improve CI/CD pipelines, and create reusable tooling and Infrastructure‑as‑Code patterns that make the right path the easiest path for engineering teams.

Here’s What You’ll Do

• Build and maintain developer tooling (AI agents, generators, libraries, templates, CLIs, and services) that improve developer efficiency and establish standardized “golden paths.”
• Build and improve CI/CD pipelines to enable fast, safe, and reliable software delivery.
• Develop and manage AWS infrastructure using Infrastructure‑as‑Code with a focus on repeatability, security, and maintainability.
• Implement and operate shared builder services that power platform developer and DevOps experience.
• Enable AI‑assisted development across the platform (e.g., integrating MCP‑style capabilities, internalizing/packaging tools, and improving developer experience with AI tools).
• Partner closely with application engineers to understand friction points and deliver practical platform solutions that are adopted across teams.
• Writing production‑quality code and automation in languages such as TypeScript/JavaScript or Python.
• Supporting application teams with infrastructure for services, environments, deployment workflows, and operational readiness.
• Improving platform reliability, observability, and developer experience through automation and sensible defaults.
• Contributing to documentation, standards, and engineering best practices that help teams move faster with confidence.

Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)

• BS/BA degree in Computer Science with 5+ years of relevant work experience.
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, or a closely related role.
• Strong programming skills in TypeScript/JavaScript or Python.
• Hands‑on experience building and operating solutions in AWS.
• Experience creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for production systems.
• Interest/familiar with using Infrastructure‑as‑Code to provision and manage cloud resources.
• Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including testing, code review, version control, and system design.
• Ability to work across application and platform boundaries to solve developer productivity and delivery problems.
• Proficiency in English (verbal and/or written) required due to global collaboration needs.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

• Familiar with Infrastructure‑as‑Code tools.
• Experience with GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD platforms.
• Familiarity with containers, especially in cloud‑based environments.
• Experience building internal services/tooling and contributing to frameworks.
• Comfort partnering with multiple engineering teams and influencing adoption through strong technical execution.

- Our Mission and Vision

At Moderna we are pioneering the development of a new class of drugs made of messenger RNA (mRNA). This novel drug platform builds on the discovery that modified mRNA can direct the body’s cellular machinery to produce nearly any protein of interest, from native proteins to antibodies and other entirely novel protein constructs that can have therapeutic activity inside and outside of cells. We have a clear mission to propel the field of mRNA science forward and deliver new medicines to patients and a unique vision for how to achieve this mission. Our Mission: To deliver on the promise of transformative messenger RNA (mRNA) science to bring new medicines to patients. Our Vision: To unlock the potential of mRNA by establishing an ecosystem of teams and partners that will work together to develop the broadest possible array of drugs, across diverse therapeutic areas and routes of administration, for serious diseases that are not treatable today.
