Join a fast growing AI software startup building a sophisticated product at the intersection of artificial intelligence, real time communication and customer experience. Based in Melbourne and working with major global software organisations, the business has already secured significant enterprise customers and is seeing strong demand for its platform. This is still very much a startup environment, with a small engineering team, direct access to the founders and significant scope for engineers to influence the product, architecture and technical direction as the company scales.
This is a broad Software Engineer position for someone who enjoys building products where the technical boundaries are still being worked out. You will work across AI agents, LLMs, real time voice and video, backend services, infrastructure and product engineering, using technologies including TypeScript, Python, WebRTC, Kubernetes and GCP. The environment is deliberately fluid, so this will suit an engineer who wants ownership beyond a narrow feature set and is comfortable moving between product problems, system design, performance, infrastructure and customer requirements. The engineering challenges are substantial, particularly around delivering natural AI interactions with very low response latency while supporting increasingly large enterprise customers.
* Design and build production software across TypeScript, Python, WebRTC, Kubernetes and GCP
* Develop and improve AI agent capabilities using LLMs, prompting, function calling, evaluation approaches and knowledge retrieval
* Solve complex real time engineering problems across voice, video, streaming, audio processing and low latency APIs
* Improve system performance with a strong focus on reducing latency across AI inference, application code and infrastructure
* Work on areas including voice activity detection, turn taking, screen activity, transcription quality and audio processing
* Design knowledge systems that allow AI agents to understand complex software products while maintaining fast response times
* Build and scale infrastructure capable of supporting enterprise customers with variable usage requirements
* Work directly with founders, product stakeholders and customers to shape technical solutions rather than simply delivering against fixed specifications
* Take ownership across the engineering lifecycle, with the flexibility to move between product, platform, AI and infrastructure challenges as priorities evolve
* Experience within a startup, scale up or similarly fluid software environment, with strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to operate across broad technical and product problems
* Practical exposure to LLMs and AI applications in production, including prompting, function calling, evaluations, knowledge retrieval or agent based systems
* Strong software engineering capability with relevant exposure to TypeScript, Python, WebRTC, Kubernetes and GCP, alongside experience or genuine interest in real time voice, video, streaming or low latency systems
