Software Engineer II - Global Football & Rugby

Your Role

We're hiring a Software Engineer to join our data API team in Chiavari.

We are making a bet: that the future of Hudl's football data is a coherent, API-first platform. A modern platform that every product and customer can build on. From player and team identity to the events, metrics and context that become stats, highlights and analysis, we turn Hudl's understanding of the game into APIs that others depend on. You'll work at the heart of it. That means designing APIs that are meant to scale, building the data services behind them, and treating the API itself as a product: versioned, documented, reliable, and easy to build on. The work is backend and data-heavy, and deeply technical. The systems you build won't serve one product or one sport but they'll become shared capabilities, the whole company builds on. You'll join a team of experienced, senior engineers, people you'll learn from every day. This is a role built for someone ready to grow quickly, with strong colleagues around them to learn the craft from.

Location

Time spent collaborating with your teammates in-office will be a regular part of how you work. We’re currently considering applicants within commuting distance of Chiavari. You’ll be expected to work more days in-office than remote, but will have the freedom to coordinate your specific in-office schedule with your team.

As a Software Engineer, you'll:

• Build the data API as a product. You'll design and ship APIs, GraphQL schemas and the services behind them. The contracts other teams and customers depend on. We iterate rapidly and deploy changes many times a day.
• Collaborate across disciplines. You'll work closely with a cross-functional team of engineers, quality analysts, product managers and designers to turn Hudl's data into tools the best in sport rely on.
• Own backend-heavy work end to end. From data model to endpoint to production, you'll take features from idea to running service and keep them reliable, observable and fast as usage grows.
• Work AI-first. You'll use AI tooling as a core part of how you build, and help the team raise its bar for what that looks like in practice.
• Propose new solutions. You'll dig into genuinely ambiguous technical problems in the data domain, weigh the options, and bring your ideas to the team through design discussions and thoughtful code reviews.

Must-Haves

• Strong technical proficiency. You have three or more years of engineering experience, specifically in backend-heavy or data-heavy environments, and you've taken features from design through to production.
• API and platform sensibility. You've built software that other teams or products consume. APIs, service contracts, GraphQL schemas or data pipelines, and you understand what it takes to make an interface others can rely on.
• A product mindset. You've shipped customer-facing products, not only internal tooling. You've felt the pressure of real users and release cycles, and you make deliberate trade-offs between quality and speed.
• AI-positive and forward-thinking. You actively use AI tools in your day-to-day engineering and are energized about pushing how far they can take a team.
• Cloud experience. You've worked with cloud-based systems and services, and TDD and CI/CD are part of how you work.
• Comfort with uncertainty. You're at ease with ambiguous work that has many possible implementations, and you know when to explore it yourself and when to draw on the experienced engineers around you to land on an approach that pragmatically balances quality and customer value.
• A collaborative, team-first mindset. You know great software is a team effort, and you're always willing to pitch in and give quality feedback in code reviews.

Nice-to-Haves

• Tech stack knowledge. Professional background in C#, GraphQL, Elastic, MongoDB and AWS is ideal.
• Data infrastructure background. Experience in environments with significant data scale and complex infrastructure needs.
• Multi-consumer / public API experience. You've built or maintained APIs consumed by more than one team or by external customers.
• Familiarity with hybrid teams. You've worked with hybrid, remote or international teams and adapt quickly to our working environment.

Our Role

• Champion work-life harmony. We’ll give you the flexibility you need in your work life (e.g., flexible vacation time above any required statutory leave, company-wide holidays and timeout (meeting-free) days, remote work options and more) so you can enjoy your personal life too.
• Guarantee autonomy. We have an open, honest culture and we trust our people from day one. Your team will support you, but you’ll own your work and have the agency to try new ideas.
• Encourage career growth. We’re lifelong learners who encourage professional development. We’ll give you tons of resources and opportunities to keep growing.
• Provide an environment to help you succeed. We've invested in our offices, designing incredible spaces with our employees in mind. But whether you’re at the office or working remotely, we’ll provide you the tech you need to do your best work.
• Support your wellbeing. Depending on location, we offer medical and retirement benefits for employees—but no matter where you’re located, we have resources like our Employee Assistance Program and employee resource groups to support your mental health.
