Software Engineer II, Full Stack – Hiring Assistant (Hybrid)

Hi, Future Homie!

At Homebase, you’ll join a team that’s bold, fast-moving, and obsessed with helping small businesses thrive. We build with empathy, act with urgency, and take big swings that drive real-world impact. Here, every Homie shows up to raise the bar, support one another, and celebrate wins as a team.

We’re not just building an app—we’re building unstoppable teams. So what do you say, are you in?

📍Your Impact Starts Here

We’re looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer II to join our Hiring Assistant team—one of the most critical bets in Homebase’s future.

This team is reimagining hiring through AI: from candidate discovery to screening to onboarding. You’ll help build intelligent, agentic workflows that reduce friction for small business owners and help workers find better jobs, faster.

This is a high-impact role where you’ll contribute to end-to-end systems, help shape architecture, and drive AI-powered product innovation across the stack (React + Ruby on Rails).

If you’re excited about building AI-native products that operate with speed, autonomy, and real-world impact—we want to hear from you.

These are the key ways you’ll contribute and create impact in this role:

• Support the design and development of scalable full-stack systems using React (frontend) and Ruby on Rails (backend)

• Build complex features end-to-end—from ideation to production—focused on Hiring Assistant workflows

• Evolve systems that support AI-driven hiring experiences (screening, matching, automation)

• Integrate and apply AI/LLM tools, agents, and automation frameworks to improve product capability and team velocity

• Partner closely with Product, Design, and Data to deliver fast, high-quality outcomes

• Support technical decision-making, including system design, performance, and scalability

• Improve engineering velocity through tooling, experimentation, and AI-assisted development workflows

• Be an advocate to raise the bar on code quality, testing, and execution among your colleague engineers

🚀 The Foundation for Success - These are the experiences and strengths that will set you up for success in this role:

• 2+ years of full stack engineering experience (Ruby on Rails + React strongly preferred)

• Proven ability to design and deliver complex systems end-to-end

• Strong experience with APIs, distributed systems, and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL)

• Demonstrated ability to retool workflows using AI and measure impact (Mid/Senior IC expectation)

• Hands-on experience or strong curiosity with LLMs, AI agents, or automation tooling

• Strong product mindset—you build for real users, not just technical elegance

• Ability to operate with high velocity and ownership in ambiguous environments

• Comfortable collaborating in-office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (hub-based hybrid model)

Bonus points if you bring:

• Experience building AI-powered or workflow automation products

• Experience in hiring, HR, or marketplace products

• Exposure to event-driven systems or microservices

🤝 The Homie Way - These principles guide everything we do—from how we work and make decisions to how we show up for each other.

• 💡 Be Customer Obsessed – Solve problems with empathy and creativity.

• ⚡ Move Fast, Learn Fast – Experiment, take action, and grow every day.

• 🎯 Own Your Impact – Think big, focus on what matters, and make decisions you stand behind.

• 🏆 Master Your Craft – Excellence fuels impact—show up, step up, and make your mark.

• 🏅 Win Together – Put goals over roles, lead with trust, and connect to our mission and each other.

What We Offer

• 💰 Ownership & Savings: Stock options + TFSA/RRSP with 4% company match

• 🏥 Health & Wellness: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision for you and your dependents

• ⏰ Paid Time Off: Flexible PTO + company holidays + designated focus periods

• 🤖 AI access, for real: We invest in builders and believe that curiosity shouldn't have a paywall. That means you'll have access to paid AI tools with minimal restrictions, so you can build, experiment, and level up your craft.

• 👶 Family Support: Maternity/Parental Leave EI top-up support offered (after 6 months of service)

• 🌟 Work Your Way: Work From Anywhere Month + meeting-free weeks yearly

What to Expect During the Interview Process

• Meet the Talent Acquisition team, Ryan H.

• Meet the Hiring Manager, Jatin B.

• Participate in Technical Interviews

• Background Check + Offer Stage

• Welcome to the team, Homie 🎉
