Software Engineer (GASP)

The Government Technology Agency (GovTech) seeks to transform the delivery of Government Digital Services by taking an \"outside-in\" view, putting citizens and businesses at the heart of everything we do. We also develop the Smart Nation infrastructure and applications, and facilitate collaboration with the public to co-develop technologies.
Join us as we support Singapore's vision of building a Smart Nation, a nation of possibilities
empowered through info-communications technology and related engineering.

Who We Are
The GovTech Anti Scam Products Team's mission is to build tech solutions to detect, disrupt and deter scammers at scale. The work spans data infrastructure, developing and deploying AI & ML to scale proactive detection, API connections to partners, as well as front-end systems for enforcement agencies.

Who Are We Looking For

Bring your engineering expertise and problem-solving ability to fighting scams with technology. You will deliver features that span multiple components, make sound trade-offs between speed, quality and maintainability, and take growing ownership of the systems you build.

We use cloud services and open source wherever possible: AWS, React / React Native, and amix of SQL/NoSQL databases, among others. Knowing what to build versus what to reuse lets us focus on delivering value rather than re-solving solved problems.

As a software engineer, you will:

• Build POCs and features spanning multiple components to demonstrate technological opportunities.
• Contribute to system architecture and design decisions, with mentorship on cross-component trade-offs.
• Write and review production-quality code, and expand test coverage across key workflows.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, manage cloud deployments, and own observability for what you ship (logging, metrics, SLIs/SLOs).
• Participate in incident triage and resolution, escalating complex issues appropriately.
• Use AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate delivery, reviewing AI-generated code to the same bar as human-authored code.

Requirements

Must have

• Python, JavaScript and/or TypeScript
• Experience with CI/CD & IaC setups
• Strong knowledge of AWS Cloud
• Strong knowledge of algorithms and data structures
• Ability to deliver

Preferred

• Running containers or serverless services
• Building high-scale, low-latency APIs and deploying scaled AI/ML solutions
• Data-intensive frameworks and data warehousing (e.g. AWS Glue, Spark); bonus for
• graph databases (e.g. Neo4j)
• Event-driven and streaming architectures using SQS/SNS/EventBridge; bonus for
• Kinesis

We're here to improve how we live as a society through what we can offer as a government.

• Because our team focuses on pushing new initiatives, you will also:
• Help identify potential projects that improve the public good
• Contribute to designing systems that work within real-world con

You're not just here to write code, but also to help figure out what we should be building and how we should build it. You will work on meaningful projects to reduce scams and make a bigimpact on people's lives.

What It Is Like Working Here

• Rapid Prototyping - Instead of spending too much time debating ideas we prefer testing them. This identifies potential problems quickly, and more importantly, conveys what is possible to others easily.
• Ownership - In addition to technical responsibilities, this means having opinions on what is being done and ideas on what should be done next. Building something that you believe in is the best way to build something good.
• Continuous Learning - Working on new ideas often means not fully understanding what you are working on. Taking time to learn new architectures, frameworks, technologies, and even languages is not just encouraged but essential.
