Software Engineer | Game Services

Craft:

Job Description:

At King, we build products and services that help millions of players enjoy our games every day. The Player Support Innovation and Development team develops the technology behind modern player support experiences, helping players quickly find answers, resolve issues, and get back to playing.

As a Software Engineer, you'll build products, platforms, and services used across multiple King games, working closely with engineers, Product Owners, designers, and game teams. Designing for reuse, scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability is at the heart of what we do.

You'll work across a variety of technologies, with much of our engineering focused on backend services, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and reliable platforms that integrate seamlessly across King's ecosystem.

No two projects are exactly the same. Depending on the challenge, you might be designing backend services, improving web applications, building developer tooling, integrating AI capabilities, or helping shape the architecture of a shared platform.

We're looking for a versatile engineer with broad software engineering knowledge, strong backend foundations, and the curiosity to learn and work across different technologies when needed.

Your role within the Kingdom

• Design, build, and maintain software used across multiple King games and services.
• Develop scalable backend services, APIs, event-driven systems, and reusable platform components.
• Design integrations and data flows across Player Support, game, and internal platform systems.
• Own features from design and implementation through testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
• Improve the scalability, resilience, observability, and maintainability of existing systems.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, designers, engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Contribute to architecture, technical discussions, code reviews, and engineering standards.
• Improve software quality through automation, testing, and continuous delivery.
• Explore and integrate AI capabilities into player support products, workflows, and internal tools where they can deliver meaningful value.
• Share knowledge and help grow the engineering culture within the team.

Skills to create thrills

We're looking for engineers with strong software engineering fundamentals and a passion for building great products. We value curiosity, adaptability, and problem-solving more than expertise in any single language or framework.

You'll likely have experience with:

• Professional software development, ideally using Java or another backend-oriented programming language.
• Designing and building scalable backend services and APIs.
• Distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and event-driven architectures.
• Relational or NoSQL databases, including data modelling and performance considerations.
• Designing reliable integrations between systems.
• Writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
• Modern engineering practices, including Git, CI/CD, automated testing, and code reviews.
• Reliability, observability, monitoring, and operating services in production.
• Cloud-based systems and modern deployment practices.
• Collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams.
• Understanding systems end-to-end, from user experiences and backend services to infrastructure and production operations.
• Using AI capabilities or AI-assisted tools as part of software development or product delivery.
• Communicating effectively in English.

Bonus Points

• React or modern web development.
• AWS or other cloud platforms.
• Docker or Kubernetes.
• Kafka or other event-streaming platforms.
• Shared platforms or developer tooling.
• AI-enabled products or workflows.
• C++, C#, or other programming languages.
• Android or iOS development and deployment.
• Game development.

How We Work

We're a small, collaborative team where everyone contributes beyond writing code. Engineers are encouraged to take ownership, participate in technical decision-making, and continuously improve both our products and the way we work.

We believe great software comes from strong engineering practices, close collaboration, and a mindset of continuous improvement. We embrace automation and AI-assisted development to help us build high-quality software more efficiently, while leaving more time to focus on solving meaningful problems.

We actively explore new technologies and engineering practices to continuously improve how we design, build, operate, and evolve our software.

Why Join Us?

Joining the Player Support Innovation and Development team means working on products and platforms that support millions of players across King's games while solving a diverse range of engineering challenges.

This is an opportunity to:

• Build products and services with impact across multiple King games.
• Work across a diverse technology landscape, from backend systems to AI-enabled experiences.
• Solve challenging engineering problems at scale.
• Influence architecture, engineering practices, and the evolution of shared platforms.
• Learn from experienced engineers in a collaborative and supportive environment.
• Help shape the future of player support and modern software engineering at King.
