About the Role
We are developing a web-based 3D BIM viewer that enables regulators and industry users to inspect, navigate, and query IFC models directly within the browser, without the need for specialist desktop software.
As a Software Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and building the viewer experience, working on challenges spanning web technologies, 3D graphics, model processing, and performance optimisation. You will be part of a small, cross-functional product team and collaborate closely with product managers, backend engineers, and domain experts to deliver impactful solutions for Singapore's Built Environment sector.
Job Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain a web-based 3D BIM viewer, from architecture through to implementation.
- Research, evaluate, and integrate relevant open-source libraries and technologies for IFC processing, geometry handling, and 3D visualisation.
- Develop model interaction features such as object selection, highlighting, property inspection, section cuts, search, and navigation tools.
- Collaborate with backend engineers on geometry processing workflows, data services, and model APIs.
- Optimise application performance and scalability when handling large and complex BIM models.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and implement solutions to improve reliability, usability, and user experience.
- Work closely with product managers and end users to gather feedback and continuously enhance the viewer.
- Contribute to technical design discussions, code reviews, and engineering best practices.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Proficiency in JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
- Familiarity with backend JavaScript runtimes such as Node.js or Deno.
- Good understanding of software engineering principles, data structures, and algorithms.
- Interest in or understanding of 3D graphics, computer graphics, computational geometry, or visualisation technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to learn and adapt quickly.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in frontend, backend, or full-stack web development.
- Familiarity with WebGL and 3D frameworks such as Babylon.js or Three.js.
- Experience with Python and libraries such as IfcOpenShell.
- Knowledge of BIM concepts, IFC standards, or digital construction workflows.
- Experience working with geospatial data and spatial information systems.
- Familiarity with WebAssembly and browser performance optimisation techniques.
- Exposure to AI-assisted or agentic software development workflows (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude Code).
