Software Engineer (Backend, Python)

We're looking for outstanding backend engineers with a Python background to join our core platform team. In this role, you'll help build the AI layer on top of our cloud-based web crawling platform, to drive productivity and unlock new possibilities.

We have multiple openings at different levels — entry-level as well as mid-senior-level candidates can apply.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, deploy, and maintain scalable software and services
• Write clean, well-tested, reusable, and maintainable code — and use AI tooling to get there faster without lowering the bar
• Collaborate with front-end engineers to integrate user-facing features with backend logic
• Unblock, support, and communicate with customers and internal partners to achieve results
• Write high-quality design specs and operational documentation
• Constantly raise the bar on engineering excellence

What We're Looking For

Must have

• 2+ years of backend software development experience
• Proficiency with Python
• Strong understanding of web technologies: HTML, JavaScript, HTTP
• Solid computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, distributed systems
• Experience working with databases, relational or NoSQL
• Strong AWS (or other public cloud) experience
• Hands-on fluency with AI coding assistants and agents (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) as part of your daily workflow, along with the judgment to know when to trust their output and when not to
• Ability to take ownership and work independently
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in CS or a related field
• Lots of passion, creativity, and a can-do attitude

Nice to have

• Experience building web crawling or large-scale data extraction software
• Front-end development experience with Next.js or React.js
• Understanding of cyber-security, especially web application firewalls

Why CrawlNow?

• Competitive compensation — at or above market rate for your level
• Rare founding-team opportunity at an early stage company, with real ownership of the systems you build
• Work directly with the founders and advisors who have over a decade of experience at the world's best tech companies (Microsoft, Google, Facebook, and others)
• Serious AI exposure. You'll use AI daily in how you work — with company-paid licenses for the frontier coding agents and model APIs you need — and help take AI features from prototype to production against real data at real scale.
• Grow with the best. Our hiring philosophy is simple: hire only top talent, then get out of their way.
• Benefits: family health insurance (or a fixed monthly medical allowance), flexible hours, and paid time off in addition to public holidays

About CrawlNow

CrawlNow is an early stage company based out of Seattle (USA). We're on a mission to help businesses around the world unleash the power of web data — because effective use of data can deliver incredible efficiency and value to almost any organization, large or small.

We provide Data-as-a-Service solutions to companies that need the open web turned into structured, reliable datasets: scalable, fully-managed, and repeatable. Our data powers AI and ML training sets, lead generation, e-commerce and pricing intelligence, market and academic research, and location/POI intelligence across a wide range of industries.

We're an AI-first team. Every engineer here works with AI coding agents and assistants as a normal part of the job — it's how a small team ships like a much larger one. We're also building AI into our core product itself. That work is early, and the person we hire will help lead it.
