About the Role
AB Connectz is looking for a capable and solution-oriented Backend Developer with 2–5 years of professional experience to join our engineering team.
The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in developing backend applications, REST APIs, database-driven systems, third-party integrations, authentication systems and production-ready server-side applications.
You will work closely with frontend developers, product teams and other engineers to design, develop and maintain reliable, secure and scalable software solutions.
We are looking for a developer who understands backend engineering beyond simply creating APIs — someone who can think logically about application architecture, database design, performance, security, maintainability and production reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain scalable backend applications, services and RESTful APIs.
- Build server-side applications using Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS and/or Express.js.
- Design and maintain efficient relational database structures using PostgreSQL and/or MySQL.
- Write optimized database queries and identify performance bottlenecks.
- Develop secure authentication and authorization mechanisms including JWT, role-based access control and permission-based access.
- Implement proper API validation, error handling, logging and security practices.
- Integrate third-party APIs and external platforms such as payment gateways, communication services, cloud services and business applications.
- Develop reusable modules and services following clean coding and software engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with frontend developers for seamless API integration and feature implementation.
- Participate in technical discussions, requirement analysis and backend architecture planning.
- Troubleshoot application issues and resolve bugs in development, staging and production environments.
- Perform code reviews and contribute to improving overall code quality and engineering standards.
- Write unit and integration tests for critical application functionality.
- Manage source code using Git and follow structured branching and version-control practices.
- Support application deployment, configuration and production maintenance when required.
- Monitor backend performance and contribute to improving scalability and reliability.
- Maintain technical documentation for APIs, modules and backend workflows.
- Take ownership of assigned modules from requirement understanding through development, testing and deployment.
Required Skills & Experience
- 2–5 years of professional experience in backend development.
- Strong practical experience with Node.js.
- Good hands-on experience with TypeScript and JavaScript.
- Experience using NestJS, Express.js or similar Node.js backend frameworks.
- Strong understanding of REST API development and integration.
- Good working knowledge of PostgreSQL and/or MySQL.
- Strong understanding of SQL queries, joins, relationships, indexing and database design.
- Experience working with ORMs such as Prisma, TypeORM, Sequelize or equivalent.
- Understanding of asynchronous programming, promises, event-driven architecture and Node.js application lifecycle.
- Experience implementing authentication, authorization, JWT and role-based access control.
- Good understanding of API security, validation and common backend security practices.
- Familiarity with Git, GitHub/GitLab/Bitbucket and collaborative development workflows.
- Ability to debug backend applications and identify root causes of technical issues.
- Good understanding of data structures, algorithms and software engineering fundamentals.
- Ability to write clean, reusable and maintainable production-quality code.
- Strong logical thinking and problem-solving ability.
Preferred / Good to Have
- Experience with Redis for caching, session management or application performance optimization.
- Experience with message queues such as RabbitMQ, Kafka or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with Docker and containerized application environments.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
- Exposure to services such as EC2, S3, RDS, CloudWatch or equivalent cloud services.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment workflows.
- Experience deploying and maintaining backend applications in production environments.
- Familiarity with Nginx, Linux servers and process managers such as PM2.
- Experience with WebSockets or real-time communication systems.
- Knowledge of background jobs, schedulers and asynchronous task processing.
- Understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems fundamentals.
- Experience working with API documentation tools such as Swagger / OpenAPI.
- Familiarity with application logging, monitoring and performance tracking.
- Exposure to SaaS, CRM, ERP, HRMS or other business software platforms will be an advantage.
What We Expect
The ideal candidate should be able to:
- Understand business requirements and convert them into technically sound backend solutions.
- Independently develop and maintain backend modules with limited supervision.
- Analyse existing codebases and confidently troubleshoot issues.
- Make sensible decisions regarding APIs, database structures and application logic.
- Identify performance, security and scalability concerns before they become production problems.
- Communicate technical challenges clearly with developers and project stakeholders.
- Estimate development tasks realistically and take ownership of delivery.
- Write understandable code that other engineers can maintain.
- Review existing implementations and suggest better technical approaches when required.
- Continuously learn new technologies and improve engineering practices.
We value developers who understand why a solution works, rather than developers who only know how to reproduce code from documentation, tutorials or AI-generated responses.
AI-assisted development tools may be used productively, but candidates are expected to independently understand, debug, modify and explain the code they work with.
What We Offer
- Opportunity to work on real-world software products and scalable business applications.
- Exposure to modern backend technologies, APIs, databases and cloud infrastructure.
- Opportunity to participate in complete product development cycles.
- Collaborative environment with direct interaction across engineering, product and business teams.
- Opportunities to develop deeper expertise in backend architecture and system design.
- Performance-driven professional growth and career progression.
- Opportunity to take increasing technical ownership based on capability.
- Competitive compensation based on experience, skills and technical assessment.
Candidate Profile
This position is suitable for developers who have already gained meaningful professional backend development experience and are now looking to take greater ownership of applications and technical decisions.
- Candidates with 2–3 years of experience should demonstrate strong backend fundamentals and the ability to independently develop functional modules.
- Candidates with 4–5 years of experience will be expected to demonstrate stronger capability in architecture, database optimization, production troubleshooting, security, deployment and technical decision-making.
