Software Developer (Sioux Falls, SD)

Mid-Level Software Engineer

Location: Sioux Falls, SD
Work Arrangement: Primarily onsite, with one remote day per week
Experience: 3+ years preferred
Employment Type: Full-time

Position Overview

We are looking for a mid-level Software Engineer to join our development team in Sioux Falls, SD.

This is a strong opportunity for a developer who has built a solid technical foundation and is ready for more variety, ownership, and exposure to the full software development process.

Our developers work across applications, databases, APIs, integrations, cloud services, automation, and user-facing systems. Depending on the project, you may be optimizing a database query one day, building an API the next, troubleshooting a production integration, improving a front-end workflow, or figuring out how to apply a new AI capability to a real business problem.

You will not be expected to know everything. We are looking for someone who is curious, learns quickly, enjoys solving problems, and wants to become a stronger engineer across the stack.

Why This Role Is Interesting

If you're starting to feel boxed into one part of the development stack, this role provides an opportunity to broaden your experience.

You will have the opportunity to:

• Work across the full application stack rather than being limited to a single layer.
• See projects through from business problem and requirements to development, deployment, and production support.
• Work with databases, APIs, web applications, cloud services, integrations, automation, and infrastructure.
• Build software that is actively used by real businesses and users.
• Work directly with the people using the software and understand why something is being built.
• Take meaningful ownership of features and projects as your experience grows.
• Gain exposure to different systems, industries, and technical challenges.
• Experiment with new technologies when they provide a practical advantage.
• Use modern AI development tools as part of your everyday workflow.
• Learn from experienced developers while still having room to make technical decisions of your own.

This is an especially good fit for someone who enjoys being a generalist and wants to become the kind of engineer who can look at an unfamiliar system or business problem and figure out how to solve it.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain business applications using C# and related technologies.
• Develop and maintain web-based interfaces using HTML, JavaScript, and related front-end technologies.
• Write, troubleshoot, and optimize SQL queries and relational database workloads.
• Build and maintain APIs and integrations with internal and third-party systems.
• Troubleshoot issues across applications, databases, integrations, hosting environments, and production systems.
• Work with team members and business users to translate requirements and problems into practical software solutions.
• Participate in application architecture and technical design discussions.
• Maintain and improve existing applications while developing new functionality.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to development standards and software quality.
• Use AI-assisted development tools for coding, debugging, research, testing, documentation, and problem solving.
• Evaluate and validate AI-generated solutions rather than treating generated code as automatically correct.
• Participate in deployment and production support activities.
• Take increasing ownership of projects and technical decisions as your experience grows.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software development experience preferred.
• Professional experience with C# and the .NET ecosystem.
• Strong working knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
• Experience with HTML and JavaScript.
• Experience using Git or another modern source-control system.
• Understanding of web applications, APIs, and common software development patterns.
• Ability to troubleshoot problems across multiple layers of an application.
• Ability to understand and work effectively within an existing codebase.
• Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools as part of the software development process.
• Ability to understand, review, and take responsibility for AI-generated code.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn technologies outside of your current specialty.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a small development team.
• Ability to work primarily onsite in Sioux Falls, SD.

Nice-to-Have Experience

Experience in any of these areas is valuable, but we do not expect candidates to have all of them:

• Azure DevOps, GitHub, or similar development platforms.
• CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.
• Microsoft Azure, AWS, or other cloud platforms.
• REST APIs and third-party integrations.
• Modern JavaScript frameworks.
• Automated testing.
• Database performance tuning.
• Cloud application hosting.
• Containers or Docker.
• DevOps or infrastructure automation.
• AI/LLM integrations or AI-assisted software development.
• Supporting production business applications.

The Kind of Developer Who Will Enjoy This Role

You will probably enjoy this position if you're the person who tends to ask, “How does the rest of this system work?”

Maybe you're already the developer who gets pulled into unusual problems because you're good at figuring things out. You enjoy understanding how the pieces fit together and aren't particularly interested in spending your career working inside one narrowly defined technology.

We value that.

You'll work with experienced developers and have support when you need it, while gaining more responsibility and technical ownership as you learn the systems and the business.

If you're the person your team tends to hand the weird problems to, we'd like to talk to you.

AI-Assisted Development

AI is becoming an important part of modern software development, and we actively use it.

We want developers who are comfortable using AI to move faster, explore unfamiliar technologies, debug problems, generate initial implementations, improve tests, and accelerate research.

But AI does not replace engineering judgment. Developers remain responsible for understanding the code they ship and making good decisions around architecture, security, maintainability, and performance.

If you already use AI development tools extensively, great. If you've experimented with them and want to become much more effective with them, that's great too.

Work Environment

This is a primarily onsite position based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with one remote workday per week, in accordance with company policy.

Because we are a relatively small development team, our engineers get visibility into a broad range of technology and business problems and have opportunities to make a meaningful impact on the systems they work on.
