About the team + role

We are building an elite team, applying frontier technologies to the world's biggest financial problems. We're looking for bold thinkers. Sharp problem-solvers. Builders who are wired to make an impact. Robinhood isn't a place for complacency, it's where ambitious people do the best work of their careers. We're a high-performing, fast-moving team with ethics at the center of everything we do. Expectations are high, and so are the rewards.

Our backend developers sit at the core of how Robinhood works — powering the financial products that millions of people rely on every day. We build and scale the services, infrastructure, and data systems behind brokerage, crypto, payments, and more. We move fast, hold high standards, and solve problems that actually matter — at a scale that very few developers ever get the chance to touch.

As a Software Developer Intern, Backend, you won't be on the sidelines — you'll own a meaningful project end-to-end, from initial scoping through to production. You'll be embedded on a real team, working directly with experienced developers, diving deep into how the US financial system actually operates, and shipping software that meets the correctness and scale requirements of a live financial platform. This is a summer where you'll leave with real impact to show for it!

This role is based in our Toronto, ON office, with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.

At Robinhood, we believe in the power of in-person work to accelerate progress, spark innovation, and strengthen community. Our office experience is intentional, energizing, and designed to fully support high-performing teams.

What you'll do

• Own a high-impact backend project from initial scoping through launch — you'll drive the work, not just support it
• Partner with a dedicated mentor who will guide you from onboarding through shipping, deepening your understanding of our tech stack and financial domain along the way
• Design, build, test, and release software solutions that meet the correctness and scalability requirements of a real financial platform
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Robinhood to solve critical problems that span the organization
• Maintain and scale an existing codebase using technologies such as Python/Django, Go, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Redis, Memcached, AWS, and Kubernetes

What you bring

• Currently enrolled in a full-time, degree-seeking program with an expected graduation date of Winter 2027 or Spring 2028
• Strong CS fundamentals and deep understanding of best coding practices
• Solid communication skills and an ability to drive large projects forward in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment
• Passion and interest in financial technology and building fintech products and services
• Prior software development experience from internships, hackathons, or personal projects
• Familiarity with Python/Django or Go, and an understanding of relational databases and transactions

What we offer

• Market competitive compensation structure
• Quarterly lifestyle wallet for personal wellness, learning and development, and more
• Access to the best AI tools on the market and continuous AI skill-building for every employee, technical or not
• Time away including company holidays, paid time off, and sick time
• Lively office environment with catered meals, fully stocked kitchens, and geo-specific commuter benefits

Base pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected hourly range for this role is based on the location where the work will be performed.
