The Role
The Senior Cost Accountant / Financial Analyst is a key member of the Groton Finance team responsible for manufacturing cost accounting, financial analysis, forecasting, operational performance and business decision support. Working closely with Finance and Operations leadership, this role translates financial and operational data into actionable insights, identifies risks and opportunities, strengthens financial controls and supports profitable business performance.
The position requires strong manufacturing cost-accounting expertise, analytical capability and the ability to independently evaluate complex issues, develop recommendations and effectively communicate findings to leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze manufacturing costs and performance, including material, labor, overhead, inventory, scrap, productivity and manufacturing variances.
- Analyze actual results against budget, forecast and prior year, identifying key financial and operational drivers, risks and opportunities.
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities, including financial modeling, assumptions, trend analysis and scenario planning.
- Support month-end and quarter-end close, including journal entries, account analysis, reconciliations, inventory accounting and significant transaction review.
- Partner with Operations to analyze productivity, throughput, scrap, labor efficiency, inventory and other key performance indicators.
- Support standard costing, inventory valuation, physical inventory and cycle counts, including investigation and resolution of significant variances.
- Analyze working capital and cash flow, including accounts receivable, inventory and accounts payable trends.
- Provide customer, product and margin profitability analysis, including price, volume, mix, material cost and operational performance.
- Prepare management reporting and clearly communicate significant financial and operational results and variances.
- Develop financial models, dashboards and reporting tools that improve decision-making, data integrity and reporting efficiency.
- Support SOX/internal controls and internal and external audits through appropriate documentation, analysis and assigned control activities.
- Partner with Operations, Purchasing, Sales and other functions to provide financial insight, challenge assumptions and support business decisions.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, reporting and automation.
- Perform financial modeling, special projects and ad hoc analysis for Finance and business leadership.

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
- 5–7 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably within manufacturing.
- Strong manufacturing cost-accounting experience, including standard costing, inventory accounting and material, labor and overhead variance analysis.
- Advanced Excel and financial-modeling skills.
- Experience with ERP systems and financial/operational data analysis. Familiarity with Business Central, Optimat, Hyperion or comparable systems.
- Strong business judgment, communication skills and ability to effectively partner with Finance and Operations leadership.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate financial and operational data into actionable business insights
- Ability to independently manage complex assignments, identify risks and opportunities, and provide recommendations to leadership.
