Senior Strategic Planning Engineer

Job description

A skilled engineering professional specializing in the design and management of urban water supply and wastewater systems, with expertise in developing efficient and sustainable solutions for water distribution, sewage treatment, stormwater management, and overall water resource planning. Demonstrates strong analytical capabilities in assessing existing conditions, evaluating project needs, and delivering optimized engineering solutions that balance functionality and environmental sustainability.

Experienced in conducting feasibility studies to evaluate the practicality of urban development projects, considering environmental impact, economic viability, technical constraints, and regulatory requirements. Adept at assessing environmental factors such as air and water quality, habitat impact, and energy consumption, and developing strategies to minimize negative effects while promoting sustainable development.

Proficient in planning and coordinating wet infrastructure systems within urban environments, ensuring integration with transportation networks, utilities, and land use requirements. Ensures compliance with applicable regulations, codes, and standards through detailed review of designs, specifications, and construction plans, while liaising with regulatory authorities to secure necessary approvals.

Collaborates effectively with multidisciplinary stakeholders, including planners, architects, developers, government entities, and communities, contributing technical expertise to support coordinated project delivery. Utilizes data analysis and modeling tools to inform decision-making, optimize infrastructure performance, and support long-term urban planning objectives.

Maintains strict adherence to quality, environmental, safety, and occupational health standards, while supporting broader organizational goals and responsibilities as assigned.

Key responsibilities

• Designing and managing water supply and wastewater systems in urban areas.
• Develop plans for water distribution networks, sewage collection and treatment systems, stormwater management, and water resource management to ensure safe and efficient water supply and environmental sustainability.
• Analyze existing conditions, assess needs and demands, and develop engineering solutions that optimize functionality and sustainability.
• Conduct feasibility studies to assess the viability and practicality of urban development projects.
• Evaluate environmental impact, economic feasibility, technical constraints, and regulatory compliance factors.
• Perform feasibility studies to help inform decision-making and ensure that proposed projects align with urban planning goals and requirements.
• Assess the potential environmental impact of urban development projects.
• Evaluate air and water pollution, habitat disruption, and energy consumption. Develop strategies and recommendations to minimize negative environmental effects and promote sustainable development practices based on findings.
• Analyze and plan the layout and distribution of wet infrastructure systems within urban areas. Consider factors such as population density, land use patterns, and transportation demands to determine the optimal placement and design of infrastructure elements. This includes coordination with road networks, public transportation, utility systems, and other essential services.
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, building codes, and standards.
• Review project designs, specifications, and construction plans to ensure they meet the required standards for safety, accessibility, and environmental impact.
• Work closely with regulatory authorities to obtain necessary permits and approvals for urban development projects.
• Collaborate with various stakeholders, including urban planners, architects, developers, government agencies, and community members. Work together to develop integrated solutions that meet the needs and aspirations of urban communities.
• Provide technical expertise and contribute to the coordination of project implementation, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among all parties involved.
• Use data analysis and modeling techniques to assess and predict the performance of urban infrastructure systems.
• Analyze data related to population growth, traffic patterns, energy consumption, and other relevant factors to inform planning decisions and optimize the design and operation of infrastructure systems.
• Inform themselves of the relevant quality, environmental, safety, and occupational health policies, manuals, and procedures within the organization and ensure continued compliance with these requirements while employed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the line manager or supervisor.
