Company Overview
Amperesand is reinventing how the world powers its most critical systems.
We are facing a once-in-a-generation opportunity for infrastructure disruption. Electricity demand is skyrocketing, driven by AI factories, electric vehicles, and modern industrial growth. Energy supply is shifting to incorporate a more diverse mix of resources – including solar, gas, and batteries – at a massive scale.
And yet the power infrastructure behind our latest mega-projects hasn’t meaningfully changed in nearly 100 years. Supply chains for today’s infrastructure equipment can’t match the pace and sophistication of critical energy projects. Amperesand is building hardware and software that rewrites this broken power infrastructure playbook to support a new era of energy abundance.
We’ve built a new class of intelligent, software-defined power infrastructure products leveraging a decade of advanced medium voltage Solid State Transformer research that’s now ready for commercial deployment.
Our products and solutions go far beyond the capabilities of traditional electrical equipment. We make power systems that are faster to deploy, dramatically smaller and more efficient, and capable of supporting modern, dynamic energy needs for tomorrow’s most demanding energy consumers.
Scalable in-house advanced manufacturing capability is our foundation for meeting timeline and quality expectation to serve infrastructure customers around the world.
Amperesand is led by breakthrough energy hardware development veterans and funded by top tier investors who share our vision of building a category-defining energy technology company.
With hubs in San Francisco, Reno, and Singapore, our global team is laser focused on building foundational technology to solve the most pressing problems in power infrastructure at scale.
Join us in building the power foundation of the future!
Role Summary:
As a Senior Staff Product Manager, you will play a pivotal role in translating Amperesand’s platform vision into tangible products that enable next-gen grid-interactive medium voltage converters. You’ll be responsible for defining and managing the delivery of a differentiated inverter platform that supports high density DC power architectures for data centers. This role blends market insight, technical acumen, and customer empathy to prioritize features that offer meaningful impact and revenue potential. You will work closely with engineering, firmware, and commercial teams to define product strategy, drive technical execution, and enable successful go-to-market outcomes.
If you're passionate about building impactful, value-centric products and excited about building transformational products at the intersection of electrification, grid modernization, and digital control—this is your opportunity to lead and we want to hear from you!
Responsibilities:
-
Engage directly with hyperscalers, colocation providers, and data-center design-build firms to define performance metrics for uptime, energy density, and fault containment.
-
Monitor global data-center power trends (AI rack loads, liquid cooling, regional grid codes, flexible interconnects) and feed insights into roadmap decisions.
-
Ensure electrical, mechanical, thermal, and firmware designs meet Tier III/IV reliability targets and UL/IEC/IEEE compliance (UL 1741, UL 2877, IEC 61850, 62477, IEEE 1547).
-
Collaborate with manufacturing and supply-chain to ensure cost, scalability, and manufacturability targets are met.
-
Partner with sales and applications engineering to generate customer proposals, value models, and technical collateral demonstrating differentiation versus legacy UPS/transformer systems.
-
Conduct competitive benchmarking versus central inverter, rotary UPS, and lithium-ion BESS suppliers.
-
Identify regulatory and incentive frameworks (energy-storage credits, grid-support revenue streams) that influence pricing strategy and product adoption.
Qualifications:
-
8+ years in product or technical leadership within data-center power or level 3 DC fast charging or grid-scale batteries
-
Strong understanding in MV, AC/DC architectures, grid interconnection, redundancy schemes, and fault protection
-
Energy Storage & EMS Familiarity: Experience with hybrid systems and integration of batteries or EMS solutions.
-
Exposure to AI data-center designs, energy-management systems, or hybrid-grid microgrids
-
BSEE required; MSEE or MBA preferred
Technical Skills:
-
Power Electronics & Inverter Systems: Deep understanding of bidirectional inverter design, and grid-supportive functionalities (e.g., reactive power, anti-islanding, grid-forming).
-
Medium Voltage Systems: Familiarity with MV infrastructure (e.g., 22kV systems), grounding/fault protection, switchgear, and interconnection requirements.
-
Firmware Collaboration: Ability to co-develop feature sets with embedded systems teams, particularly around real-time control loops, black start logic, and remote diagnostics.
-
Standards & Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of IEEE 1547, IEEE 2800, UL 1741, IEC 61850, NEC and grid interconnection frameworks.
-
System Modeling & Specification: Capable of writing clear, technically detailed product requirements including control architecture, communication protocols, and I/O definitions.
Bonus Qualifications:
-
Exposure to power systems modeling, fault studies, and software tools such as ETAP, Simulink, and MATLAB
-
Utility Sector Knowledge: Experience working on interconnection studies, projects related to smart grids, renewable energy, or energy management platforms is a plus.
Please note: This role requires working on-site 5 days a week. We do not offer hybrid or remote options.
