Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center is hiring a Senior Staff Attorney to champion justice for immigrants by bridging sophisticated litigation with human-centered advocacy.
Las Americas is a nationally-recognized organization that provides high-quality legal services, advocacy, and support to detained and non-detained individuals in El Paso, Texas, and southern New Mexico. Since 1987, we have represented over 50,000 individuals while advocating for systemic change through impact litigation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Litigation & Advocacy: Manage a caseload of complex removal defense matters, including contested legal issues and appellate briefing, before USCIS, the Immigration Court and the BIA; advocate directly with ICE on complex or sensitive matters; and may handle federal habeas corpus litigation on behalf of detained clients.
Supervision & Mentorship: Supervise, mentor, and review the work of legal assistants, junior staff, and interns.
REQUIREMENTS
Education/Bar: Juris Doctorate (JD) with active membership in good standing of any state bar.
Experience: 3+ years of immigration law experience, with a strong track record in removal defense. Experience with federal court litigation, including habeas corpus, is a plus.
Skills and Values: Strong communication, organizational, and case management skills under pressure; deep commitment to social justice and immigrant rights.
Language: Professional fluency in English and Spanish is required.
Location: Must work locally out of the El Paso, TX office.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
$68,000 to $75,000, commensurate with experience; health insurance with employer contributions; flexible/hybrid schedule; and generous PTO.
