Senior Software Engineer

Salary: $140,000 – $150,000 per year

Viable Solutions Pty Ltd is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This is a full-time position based in Sydney, NSW. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing and maintaining robust software solutions that drive our business forward. You will take on a strategic role within our technology infrastructure, tackling complex technical challenges and mentoring junior team members. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on our product development whilst helping shape the future direction of our engineering practices.

What you'll be doing

• Design and develop scalable software applications using industry best practices and modern architectural patterns

• Write clean, maintainable code whilst ensuring adherence to coding standards and quality guidelines

• Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members to foster a culture of continuous improvement

• Collaborate with product managers, designers and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions

• Participate in system architecture discussions and contribute to technical decision-making processes

• Troubleshoot, debug and optimise existing software systems to improve performance and reliability

• Mentor and support junior engineers in their professional development and technical growth

• Contribute to the documentation of systems, processes and technical specifications

• Participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups and retrospectives

• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends relevant to software engineering

What we're looking for

• 7+ years of professional software development experience in Java, Springboot backend microservices development.

• Demonstrated expertise in API and Integration patterns.

• Experience in Temporal or Similar Workflow/Orchestration technology.

• Strong understanding of software design principles, object-oriented programming and design patterns.

• Experience with version control systems, particularly Git, and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.

• Proven ability to work effectively in agile development environments.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to break down complex technical challenges.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Experience mentoring or leading junior developers

• Knowledge of software testing methodologies and experience writing unit and integration tests

• Experience with AWS cloud platform and services

• Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes is preferred

• A commitment to writing secure code and understanding of common security vulnerabilities
