Our mission is to provide cheaper, greener energy to the French market.
Kraken Technologies is a company within Octopus Energy Group licensing the Kraken platform and operating model to clients worldwide. Current clients include Octopus Energy retail businesses as well as external clients such as Good Energy, Origin, EDF, and E.ON, with more expected to join in the coming years.
Our engineering team includes around 450 people globally, covering server-side, client-side and mobile developers. We work in a multi-disciplinary environment with UX, copywriters and designers. We follow a Kanban-like approach and use tools such as GitHub, CircleCI, Terraform Enterprise, Google Docs and Asana to specify and manage work. Monitoring and performance tools are used in production.
Server-side: Python with Django and the Django REST framework; data analysis with Pandas, NumPy and Jupyter; background processing with Celery and message brokers. Client-side: React, Redux, and SASS; mobile apps in native code or React Native. We use AWS and HashiCorp tools as part of a continuous deployment pipeline.
