P.S: We highly recommend reading The "API-First World" graphic novel to understand the bigger picture and our vision at Postman.
We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer to own the implementation, inventory, monitoring, and performance of every third-party integration that touches our numerous web properties: conversion pixels, trackers, first- and third-party analytics, ABM, APIs, cAPIs, cookie consent banners, and whatever the next law or vendor throws at us next quarter.
This is not a migration. It is not a zero-to-one build. It's a plane flying well, and the person you're backfilling left it in good standing with thorough notes. You'll be taking over the controls, tuning the instruments, and working through a backlog of challenging and interesting projects. If you're looking for a stepping stone to something else, this isn't it. If you want to deeply nerd out on analytics, engagement, performance, and the craft of getting third-party implementations right, read on.
About 90% of your time will be spent on third-party integrations: implementing them, inventorying them, tracking them, monitoring their uptime and the veracity of their data streams, and optimizing their performance. These integrations are helping the business get a view into how our campaigns, organic traffic, and other initiatives are actually working.
The remaining 10% is where the variety lives. Our stack runs from AWS and Cloudflare Workers to React/Next.js, into a WordPress theme, a Zendesk theme, Discourse, and more. You'll jump in across JavaScript, TypeScript, a bit of PHP, JSON, YAML, and whatever implementation technique a given platform demands. What you ship on Monday may look nothing like what you ship on Friday.
You'll sit at the intersection of Leadership, Legal, Marketing Engineering, and our third-party vendors. All four will look to you to figure it out, and in a way that meets each of their needs. Knowing where to strike the balance between speed, compliance, quality, and performance shifts with every implementation.
You thrive in ambiguity and dive in anyway. This corner of the ecosystem shifts constantly with each new law, vendor change, and business need, and that's exactly what you find interesting about it.
You can step onto an established, functioning system, get up to speed quickly, and start forming opinions about what you see, without needing to rewrite everything to feel ownership.
You communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, make sound and informed judgment calls under competing priorities, and adapt quickly when direction shifts. This role has regular exposure to Leadership, so you bring a composed, transparent approach to your work and stay steady when the work gets fast or messy.
You also work well as a specialist inside a team of six engineers that can help where you may need it. There will be lots of solo adventures in your work, and also times when you can’t get a project done without 5 other people involved.
The reasonably estimated base salary for this role ranges from $180,000 to $220,000, plus a competitive equity package. Actual compensation is based on the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.
In addition to Postman's pay-on-performance philosophy, and a flexible schedule working with a fun, collaborative team, Postman offers a comprehensive set of benefits, including full medical coverage, flexible PTO, wellness reimbursement, and a monthly lunch stipend. Along with that, our wellness programs will help you stay in the best of your physical and mental health. Our frequent and fascinating team-building events will keep you connected, while our donation-matching program can support the causes you care about. We’re building a long-term company with an inclusive culture where everyone can be the best version of themselves.
At Postman we value in person collaboration. We are in office 5 days a week for all roles based out of our hubs in San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, Austin, New York City, Tokyo and London. For roles based in Bangalore, employees currently work in the office three days a week and will transition to five days per week by the end of the year. We were thoughtful in our approach which is based on collaboration and grounded in feedback from our workforce, leadership team, and peers. The benefits of our in office model will be shared knowledge, brainstorming sessions, communication, and building trust in-person that cannot be replicated via zoom.
At Postman, we create with the same curiosity that we see in our users. We value transparency and honest communication about not only successes, but also failures. In our work, we focus on specific goals that add up to a larger vision. Our inclusive work culture ensures that everyone is valued equally as important pieces of our final product. We are dedicated to delivering the best products we can.
