Senior backend engineer building and scaling services for high-volume legal document ingestion, indexing, search, and workflow orchestration. Main stack is TypeScript/Node.js with PostgreSQL, OpenSearch, Temporal, Redis, AWS, and Kubernetes, powering LexisNexis's AI-ready legal knowledge platform.

Lexis® Create+, formerly known as Henchman, is part of LexisNexis following its acquisition in 2024. Founded in 2021, Henchman quickly established itself in the legal industry, gaining customers across five continents and winning legal tech awards.
LexisNexis® is a leading global provider of legal, regulatory, business information, and risk analytics, operating as a subsidiary of RELX. It offers advanced legal research tools (Lexis+), AI solutions (Protégé), and risk management, serving professionals in over 150 countries with data-driven insights.
You’ll build and improve backend services for large-scale document ingestion, preprocessing, indexing, search, synchronization, and workflow orchestration. You’ll work on systems where reliability, throughput, observability, and data correctness matter every day.
Our backend stack is mainly TypeScript/Node.js, with PostgreSQL, OpenSearch, Temporal, Redis, AWS, Kubernetes, and some Python services. TypeScript and Node.js experience is a plus, but strong backend experience with similar technologies matters more.
You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across different time zones, working closely with product, frontend, platform, and domain experts to deliver reliable backend systems.
We’re a team of around 20 engineers, and we’re looking for a Senior Backend Developer to help us scale the systems behind document processing, search, integrations, and AI-ready knowledge infrastructure.
You have strong experience building production backend systems and working with large amounts of data. You can work independently, take ownership of technical decisions, and lead internal projects from idea to delivery.
You think carefully about queues, workflows, indexing, database performance, API contracts, observability, and production reliability.
Experience with PostgreSQL, OpenSearch, Temporal or similar workflow systems, AWS, and high-volume document processing is a big plus. Curiosity about AI infrastructure, embeddings, Agents, RAG, and legal technology will help you thrive here.
At LexisNexis, we are building the data and AI infrastructure that helps the world’s leading law firms turn millions of documents into searchable, actionable knowledge. Our platform processes high volumes of customer data in the order of terabytes, extracts structure from complex legal content, and powers indexing pipelines used by Agents, RAG platforms, and legal search experiences.
You’ll work on technically demanding systems with real-world scale: millions of legal documents, complex customer data, and users at the largest law firms in the world. You’ll have room to shape architecture, improve core pipelines, and help build the backend foundation for AI-powered legal workflows.
We’re flexible on setup: this role can be structured either as a payroll position or as a contractor arrangement, depending on what works best for both sides.
