Senior Software Engineer

Salary: $120,000 – $180,000 per year

About the role

Flip is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop and maintain our front-end and back-end software applications, website and supporting systems. The role will contribute to the ongoing development of Flip’s telecommunications platforms and digital services, while providing technical guidance to our overseas development team of four engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Designing, developing, testing and maintaining front-end and back-end software applications, websites, APIs and supporting systems.

• Analysing business and technical requirements and developing effective software solutions.

• Writing, reviewing and maintaining high-quality, secure and efficient code.

• Troubleshooting, debugging and resolving software and system issues.

• Managing software testing, automation, deployments and ongoing application support.

• Monitoring system performance, reliability and operational metrics and implementing improvements.

• Implementing appropriate software security measures, including secure coding, authentication, data protection and encryption.

• Identifying and mitigating technical, operational and security risks throughout the software development lifecycle.

• Maintaining technical documentation, system specifications and operational procedures.

• Evaluating new technologies, tools and development approaches to support Flip’s evolving telecommunications and digital requirements.

• Providing technical advice on software architecture, system design, upgrades and technology solutions.

• Providing technical leadership, guidance and code review for Flip’s overseas team of four software engineers.

• Coordinating development activities between Australian operations and the overseas engineering team.

• Supporting continuous improvement across software development, testing, deployment, security and operational processes.

About you

• Significant commercial software engineering experience

• Demonstrated experience leading software engineering teams

• Strong hands-on software development capability

• Strong experience with backend development and API architecture

• Strong understanding of relational databases and data modelling

• Experience designing and operating AWS-based infrastructure

• Strong understanding of secure software development practices

• Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, code review, and release management

• Experience managing production incidents and conducting Root Cause Analysis

• Strong architecture and solution-design capability
