Senior Software Engineer, Enterprise

At Tiger Data, formerly Timescale, we empower developers and businesses with the fastest PostgreSQL platform designed for transactional, analytical, and agentic workloads. Trusted globally by thousands of organizations, Tiger accelerates real-time insights, drives intelligent applications, and powers critical infrastructure at scale. As a globally distributed, remote-first team committed to direct communication, accountability, and collaborative excellence, we're shaping the future of data infrastructure, built for speed, flexibility, and simplicity.

As a Software Engineer for TimescaleDB Enterprise, you’ll help build and support our on-prem enterprise platform: a solution that enables customers to deploy, manage, secure, and operate TimescaleDB in their own environments.

This is a high-growth role for a builder who wants to help develop both the product and technical foundations of an evolving enterprise offering. You’ll work across the full stack of the experience, including operational tooling and deployment systems, helping us turn complex enterprise requirements into pragmatic, scalable solutions.

You’ll partner with senior engineers to deeply understand operational pain points and build software that solves real-world infrastructure challenges.

This role is ideal for someone at an early career stage who combines strong engineering instincts with a desire to learn product thinking, customer empathy, and how to navigate ambiguity confidently.

📍 This role is remote. Candidates must be located in the US Eastern or Central Time Zone.

What you will be responsible for in this role

• Learning from and contributing to the design and development of TimescaleDB Enterprise, our on-prem deployment and management platform.

• Developing core product capabilities under guidance, including:

  • management consoles and user-facing tooling (React + TypeScript)

  • backend APIs and services (Go)

  • deployment workflows and configuration management (Ansible)

  • operational tooling for production PostgreSQL databases

  • and customer administration experiences.

• Writing tests at every level, from unit tests to automated end-to-end testing against real infrastructure.

• Gaining experience in technical decisions across the product lifecycle, balancing speed, maintainability, and customer experience.

• Working with senior engineers to understand operational requirements and translate them into pragmatic product solutions.

• Implementing new features while learning to improve reliability, usability, and operational simplicity.

• Collaborating with Platform Engineering and cross-functional stakeholders across Product, Support, and Sales Engineering.

• Supporting the implementation of the long-term product and technical direction of the Enterprise platform.

• Learning to operate effectively in ambiguous environments where priorities evolve and engineers are expected to drive clarity.

• Leveraging AI tools daily to accelerate development, debugging, and product iteration workflows.

You could be a great fit if you…

• Are naturally curious and gravitate toward taking ownership as you grow in your career.

• Are eager to learn how to navigate ambiguity and enjoy figuring things out with team support.

• Want to think holistically about products beyond just writing code, caring about workflows and long-term evolution.

• Have emerging product intuition and want to learn how to translate customer pain points into high-impact solutions.

• Are becoming comfortable making thoughtful decisions with the information available while balancing quality and speed.

• Care about customer experience and want to learn how products succeed or fail in real-world technical environments.

• Enjoy building products from an early stage and improving them rapidly through iteration and feedback.

• Want to thrive in environments where engineers contribute to architecture, direction, and operational thinking.

• Already use AI tools in your daily workflow to accelerate problem-solving and development.

• Communicate clearly and are excited to create momentum for the people around you.

• Prioritize solving meaningful customer problems over defending technical purity.

Technical experience that will help you succeed

• Foundational software engineering experience (roughly 1-3 years, including internships or substantial projects), ideally with exposure to backend services, developer platforms, or infrastructure tools.

• Working knowledge of Go or TypeScript, or a track record of picking up new languages quickly.

• Comfort with Linux fundamentals: the shell, SSH, services, containers, and basic networking.

• An interest in working across multiple layers of a system, from backend services to user-facing tooling.

• Familiarity and growing proficiency with AI coding tools.

• Basic knowledge of PostgreSQL, distributed systems, or deployment automation is a strong plus.

• Experience working in collaborative environments with other technical contributors.

You might not be a great fit if…

• You prefer only highly scoped work with fixed requirements and no ambiguity.

• You want to focus purely on narrow implementation tasks without learning about product ownership.

• You are uncomfortable with the idea of interacting with customers or translating feedback into engineering decisions.

• You prefer maintaining mature systems over building and evolving new foundations.

• You avoid making any progress or decisions without having perfect information.

• You want a role where technical execution is completely isolated from strategy.

• You are uncomfortable in fast-moving startup environments where priorities can evolve quickly.
