Senior Backend Software Engineer at Grow Therapy (mental-healthcare marketplace) designs, builds, and operates server-side services and APIs end to end — spanning provider search/booking, client activation, and insurance claims — with a focus on reliability, data quality, and A/B testing. Hybrid: 3 days/week onsite from NYC, SF, or Seattle hubs.
Grow Therapy is on a mission to serve as the trusted partner for therapists growing their practice, and patients accessing high-quality care. Powered by technology, we are a three-sided marketplace that empowers providers, augments insurance payors, and serves patients. Following the mass increase in depression and anxiety, the need for accessibility is more important than ever. To make our vision for mental healthcare a reality, we’re building a team of entrepreneurs and mission-driven go-getters. Since launching in February 2021, we’ve empowered more than ten thousand therapists and hundreds of thousands of clients across the country and insurance landscape.
We’re hiring a Software Engineer to help build and evolve the backend systems that power Grow Therapy’s platform. In this role, you’ll design, implement, and ship server‑side features and services that directly impact how clients and providers connect, communicate, and access care.
You’ll join a collaborative, product-focused engineering organization where technical work is closely tied to reliability, scalability, and real-world outcomes. This role is ideal for an engineer who takes pride in writing clean, well-tested code, thinks carefully about system design and data integrity, and is energized by the opportunity to grow alongside a fast-moving team.
Access to mental healthcare in America is still deeply fragmented and Grow Therapy is building the platform to fix that. We connect clients, providers, and health plans in a single integrated system, and the software our engineers ship directly shapes whether people can find and afford the care they need.
We’re growing fast – nearly 22,000 clinicians, over 1.4 million clients, and on track to surpass 10 million sessions in 2026 – and we see ourselves as a generational company with a long way still to go. Engineers who join now have a real opportunity to build systems that matter at meaningful scale.
Marketplace Experience: The Marketplace Experience team shapes how clients discover and evaluate providers on Grow, transforming a simple directory into a guided, personalized entry point to care. As a Software Engineer on this team, you’ll work across search, ranking, profiles, and booking flows to build a fast, resilient, and intelligent marketplace that helps every client find the right fit provider and convert that intent into a booked appointment.
Client Activation: The Client Activation team owns the fragile moments between booking and a client’s first few sessions, making starting care feel clear, reliable, and supportive. As a Software Engineer on this team, you’ll build and harden systems for scheduling, authentication, notifications, and early‑journey flows that directly determine whether clients show up, come back for visit two, and build lasting relationships with their providers.
Claims Engine: The Claims Engine team powers Grow’s end-to-end insurance claim lifecycle, from claim creation through submission, remits, and denials. As a Software Engineer on this team, you’ll build robust, observable services that encode complex payor rules, reduce denials and rework, and ensure providers get paid accurately and on time.
This is a hybrid role with the expectation to work onsite from our NYC, San Francisco, or Seattle hub location three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and travel 2–3 times per year.
Research shows that some groups hesitate to apply unless they meet every qualification. If you’re excited about this role but don’t check every box, we encourage you to apply. At Grow, we value diverse experiences, transferable skills, and the unique strengths each person brings.
