Be the one building AI-powered experiences where they matter most.

At Genesys, we help organizations create better customer experiences through AI-powered experience orchestration. Our platform connects people, systems, data and AI to help organizations deliver more personalized service, improve operational efficiency and build stronger customer relationships.

Help build, support and operate technology used by more than 8,000 organizations in over 100 countries – moving AI from possibility to production in real-world enterprise environments every day.

Location: For this role, we are looking for candidates who are able to work onsite in our Galway office two to three days per week.

The Genesys Digital & AI group builds the innovations that power customer experiences for 7,500+ organisations worldwide. As a Senior Backend Engineer at Genesys you will design, develop, and maintain high-throughput backend services in Java, deployed on AWS infrastructure, serving millions of interactions daily.

Responsibilities

• Own well‑defined services or components end‑to‑end. Design, build, test, deploy and operate backend capabilities (APIs, events/streams, storage, consistency, caching), including on‑call participation and post‑GA care

• Deliver features from discovery to GA. Write clear technical docs and contribute to design reviews and break work down sensibly

• Build for scale and stability. Implement observability, SLOs, runbooks and back‑pressure/limits; take part in incident response and post‑mortems

• Collaborate across teams. Partner with Agentic AI specialists, Product, Security, SRE, Frontend and other dev teams to deliver new features on the Genesys Cloud platform

• Mentorship & Team Development: Write clean, well‑tested code, review PRs, contribute to API/event design standards, automated testing and drive knowledge sharing discussions

• Make pragmatic trade‑offs. Balance latency, reliability, security and cost using data driven design

• Security and governance by design. Apply threat modelling, least‑privilege IAM, secrets hygiene and data retention with strong auditability

What We're Looking For:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or equivalent experience)

• 4+ years building backend or platform software with evidence of strong ownership

• Strong Java experience

• Experience designing and operating services on AWS infrastructure

• Understanding of distributed systems concepts: eventual consistency, fault tolerance, idempotency, circuit breakers

• Experience with RESTful API design, gRPC, or event-driven messaging patterns (Kafka, SQS, RabbitMQ)

• Strong communication skills

Desirable Experience or an Interest in Learning:

• Analytics and data tooling, e.g. Apache Spark, Pandas

• Batch data processing (Spark/Flink/EMR/Glue) and data quality tooling

• LLM systems concepts (tool use/orchestration, retrieval, evals) and cost/latency trade‑offs

• Observability at scale: metrics, traces, logs, SLOs and error budgets

• Security, privacy and governance of enterprise software
