Builds and maintains backend systems for a fintech app that helps users manage money and avoid overdraft fees.
Dave is a financial app on a mission to build products that level the financial playing field. It is redefining the financial landscape by leveraging technology to create an affordable, transparent, and user-centric access to liquidity for millions of Americans. As a leading innovator in the U.S. financial services sector, Dave’s digital financial platform offers products designed to meet the credit needs of those underserved by traditional financial institutions. Dave’s offerings include its flagship ExtraCash product, providing members up to $500 within minutes. The company is on track to launch several new product offerings in 2026, including a Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) option.
Dave is focused on serving Americans who are financially vulnerable or living paycheck to paycheck. Dave is leading the charge in creating a new era of credit products that prioritizes speed, affordability, and accessibility, making it the go-to financial partner for those who need it most.
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Backend to help build and evolve the core platform that powers Dave's banking and payments experience for millions of members. This team owns the systems behind Dave Bank accounts, debit cards, payment processing, and the integrations that connect us with sponsor banks, payment processors, and financial partners.
In this role, you'll help shape the architecture of critical backend services while working closely with product, engineering, and cross-functional partners to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable solutions. You'll have meaningful ownership over systems that directly impact our members' ability to move money confidently and securely while helping establish the technical foundation that supports Dave's continued growth.
Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and resilient backend services using TypeScript and Node.js.
Own and evolve distributed systems that support banking, card management, payment processing, and partner integrations.
Architect technical solutions that balance immediate business needs with long-term scalability, maintainability, and security.
Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to translate business goals into thoughtful technical solutions.
Improve platform reliability by proactively identifying risks, optimizing performance, and strengthening observability through logging and monitoring.
Design efficient data models and storage solutions across SQL and NoSQL databases.
Participate in code reviews that improve code quality while mentoring teammates through constructive feedback.
Continuously improve engineering practices by refactoring systems, reducing technical debt, and sharing knowledge across the team.
The systems you build will power some of Dave's most important financial products, enabling members to access and move their money securely and reliably. Your work will influence the long-term evolution of our banking platform while helping create a more dependable experience for millions of customers.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
4+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on backend development.
Professional experience building backend applications with TypeScript and Node.js.
Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, design patterns, and algorithms.
Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
Experience building scalable distributed systems and cloud-native applications.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex technical challenges and deliver practical, maintainable solutions.
Excellent communication skills with a track record of collaborating effectively across engineering and cross-functional teams.
Ability to thrive in an agile environment while balancing independent ownership with collaborative execution.
Experience integrating with enterprise payment processors.
Experience building systems in PCI-compliant environments or other highly regulated industries.
Familiarity with banking, payment infrastructure, or financial services platforms.
Curiosity for emerging technologies and a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
You'll do well in this role if you enjoy solving meaningful technical challenges and take ownership of outcomes, not just individual tasks. You think beyond the immediate implementation, considering how architecture decisions affect reliability, scalability, and the broader business. You value clean design, thoughtful trade-offs, and building systems that continue to perform as Dave grows.
Success also comes from strong collaboration. You'll work closely with engineers, product managers, and partners across the company, welcoming feedback and sharing knowledge to strengthen both the platform and the team. Priorities may evolve as our products grow, and you'll help shape solutions while maintaining momentum and keeping our members' experience at the center of every decision.
You'll join a collaborative engineering team with meaningful ownership over foundational financial infrastructure. We make data-informed decisions, invest in engineering quality, and continuously improve our systems as our products and member needs evolve. You'll have the opportunity to influence technical direction while working alongside experienced teammates who value thoughtful collaboration and sustainable execution.
Build technology that helps millions of people improve their relationship with money.

Help shape the future of Dave's financial platform as we continue to grow.
