Salary: Perm salary up to $195k + Bonus + Super
Join a high-impact engineering team rebuilding the technology backbone of one of Australia's most critical pieces of f infrastructure. - Ground-floor opportunity to shape a multi-year cloud transformation you're making the architecture calls, not inheriting someone else's
- Modern stack, zero legacy baggage: Java 21, Python, Kafka, Kubernetes and AWS serverless, building event-driven systems from the ground up
- Perm salary up to $190k + Bonus + Super, with real runway to grow as the platform scales
Join a growing engineering team inside a major Australian financial services organisation, building the next generation of cloud-native systems that sit at the heart of how transactions are processed at scale. This isn't a maintenance role on ageing infrastructure — it's a ground-up rebuild, replacing legacy on-premise .NET systems with modern, event-driven Java services running natively in the cloud.
This team owns the design and delivery of new microservices and serverless capabilities that will underpin core business-critical functions for years to come. Instead of patching what exists, engineers here are making the architecture decisions that will define how this platform runs for the next decade — a genuine golden-window opportunity to shape a transformation program at one of the country's most important financial institutions.
The environment is fully cloud-native, built on Java 21, Python, Kafka, Kubernetes and AWS (Lambda, ECS), delivering high-throughput, event-driven distributed systems that need to be resilient, observable, and built to scale. You'll work across the full lifecycle — from design and architecture through to build, testing, and production support — with real ownership over how problems get solved, not just how tickets get closed.
What we are looking for: - Strong hands-on Java experience (Java 21 highly regarded), with working knowledge of Python
- Experience designing and building microservices and serverless functions (AWS Lambda) from the ground up
- Solid understanding of event-driven architecture, ideally with Kafka
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes, containers, and CI/CD pipelines
- Strong SQL skills and the ability to reason about data at scale
- A genuine design and architecture mindset — someone who can take a business problem and turn it into a system design, then bring others along with the idea
- Domain exposure to banking, payments, or other transaction-critical financial services environments is highly regarded but not essential
You're not expected to tick every box here. What matters most is strong Java fundamentals, a design-first mindset, and the appetite to build something new inside a business going through real transformation.
