Job Title: Senior Software Development Engineer - Amazon Connect

Location: Nottingham - Hybrid

Working Pattern: 3 days in-office (Tuesday-Thursday) and 2 days remote.

Our Mission

We’re on a mission to be a force for good in lending. Throughout our almost 30-year history, we’ve consistently been recognised as a great place to work; in 2026, Capital One was officially ranked 9th in the UK’s Best Workplaces™ list. You can hear from our team about what it’s like working at Capital One UK.

You and the Role

The UK Connect team supports Capital One’s UK Contact Centre operation run using Amazon Connect Customer on Amazon Web Services (AWS). This team sits at a fantastic intersection between enabling a busy and thriving contact centre across voice and chat channels, while delivering on its own platform roadmap and ensuring we maintain a secure and stable service. The team currently consists of engineers, a Product Manager, a Software Engineering Manager, and an Application Architect.

Working in and across tech teams is a natural part of our outcome-based culture, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to talk, coach, learn, and deliver great outcomes for our customers. We’d be looking for you to set and maintain our engineering standards while also bringing your peers along with you on this journey.

Please apply if you are keen to work with the following technology stack. You do not need to be an expert in all of these areas; we are primarily looking for excellent problem solvers with a strong willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.

• Node/TypeScript or Go for your primary software development.
• AWS Serverless Ecosystem, using services such as Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, and S3.
• Amazon Connect Customer and our custom-built front-end portal that sits on top of it. If Connect is new to you, no problem, we can provide you all the training you need on how it works with the wider AWS ecosystem.
• Jenkins for infrastructure as code and CI/CD pipeline management.
• Monitoring & Logging tools to troubleshoot problems in a distributed network of systems, such as & NewRelic.

And meet most of the following:

• You possess production-grade experience of software engineering and knowledge of the software development lifecycle.
• You enjoy leading by example, setting engineering best practices, and mentoring other engineers to broaden their skillsets.
• You want to design and own software engineering development deployments from start to finish, thinking strategically about back-end architectural and design patterns.
• You appreciate the sensitivity of customer data and enjoy baking quality into everything you do. Plus a focus on test-driven development and resiliency.
• You enjoy automation and proactively managing system optimisations from identifying bottlenecks to participating in proactive incident management. (Note: There is also a chance to join our 24/7 on-call rota for extra pay).
• You enjoy hybrid working, with Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in our bright offices.

Where and how you'll work

This is a permanent position based in our Nottingham office.

We embrace a hybrid approach to work. You'll spend three days a week in the office (Tuesday - Thursday), with Monday and Friday being dedicated work-from-home days. Our offices are designed to inspire and support you. At our Nottingham head office, you'll find an on-site gym, restaurant, and dedicated Learning Loft.

What’s in it for you

We invest in the growth of our people alongside our business. You will have extensive opportunities to learn and develop your career, including access to up to £5,000 in funding for external qualifications.

In addition to career development, our comprehensive benefits package is designed to grow with you, ensuring your wellbeing is prioritised at every stage of your career:

• Wealth & Future: Competitive pension and performance-based bonus schemes.
• Holidays: Start with 25 days of annual leave, increasing with tenure, with the option to buy 5 additional days.
• Health: Access premium care through our private medical insurance.
• Family Support: We champion your milestones with enhanced parental leave.

What you should know about how we recruit

We pride ourselves on hiring the best people, not the same people. Building diverse and inclusive teams is the right thing to do and the smart thing to do. We want to work with top talent: whoever you are, whatever you look like, wherever you come from.

We value diversity, inclusion, and belonging at our core. We empower our associates to do great work by creating an inclusive culture—one that values diverse perspectives, fosters collaboration, and encourages innovative ideas. We call this our Culture of Belonging, and it rests at the heart of our business.

Our associate-led Business Resource Groups (including over 10 groups across our offices) offer a range of activities, networking opportunities, and support. These include:

• REACH: Focusing on representation, retention, and engagement for associates from minority ethnic groups and allies.
• Women in Tech & EmpowHER: Promoting an inclusive environment and developing future female leaders.
