About the Role

The Senior QA Engineer is a hands-on automation engineer responsible for the quality of the applications and services their team delivers. This individual owns test strategy and execution at the feature and product level — designing and building automated test suites, integrating them into CI/CD pipelines, and validating functionality, integrations, data, and performance across the stack.

This is a senior individual contributor role embedded on an Agile delivery team. The Senior QA Engineer partners closely with developers, business analysts, and product owners to shape testable requirements, applies risk-based and metrics-driven approaches to focus effort where it matters most, and serves as a technical resource and mentor to less experienced QA engineers on the team.

Job Description – Duties & Responsibilities

• Designs, develops, and maintains automated test suites for web applications and APIs using Java with Selenium WebDriver and Playwright with TypeScript.
• Builds and maintains BDD test frameworks using Cucumber, TestNG, and Maven, translating acceptance criteria into executable, reusable test scenarios.
• Owns the full testing lifecycle for assigned features, including test planning, test case design, execution, defect management, and regression coverage.
• Authors, organizes, and maintains test cases and execution cycles in Jira and Zephyr Scale, and documents test strategy, coverage, and results in Confluence.
• Integrates automated test execution into CI/CD pipelines using GitHub and GitHub Actions, ensuring tests run reliably as part of the build and deployment process.
• Performs functional, regression, integration, and cross-browser testing across Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.
• Conducts API and web services testing using POSTMAN, Swagger, and Rest Assured, validating contracts, payloads, and error handling.
• Executes performance testing against UIs and APIs using tools such as Apache JMeter and Gatling, analyzing results and partnering with development to resolve bottlenecks.
• Writes and executes SQL queries against Oracle databases to validate data integrity and support systems integration and data analysis testing.
• Applies risk-based testing approaches to prioritize coverage where product and business risk is highest.
• Tracks and reports on quality metrics, using data to identify trends, surface risks early, and drive continuous improvement in the testing process.
• Participates in Agile ceremonies — refinement, planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives — partnering with developers, business analysts, and product owners to build quality in from the start.
• Contributes to TDD and BDD practices in partnership with development, providing early feedback on testability and acceptance criteria.
• Leverages GitHub Copilot and similar tooling to improve test development speed and coverage.
• Mentors less experienced QA engineers on automation practices, framework standards, and testing fundamentals.
• Identifies gaps in existing test coverage, frameworks, and processes, and recommends improvements to testing standards, tools, and methodologies.

Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

Required:

• 5+ years of experience in quality assurance engineering or software testing.
• Strong understanding of software testing standards, policies, methodologies, tools, and processes.
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining automated test frameworks, not solely executing existing tests.
• Automation experience with Java and Selenium WebDriver, as well as Playwright with TypeScript.
• Experience with Cucumber, TestNG, and Maven.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Jira, Zephyr Scale, Confluence, GitHub, GitHub Actions, GitHub Copilot, SQL, Oracle, and Web Services & APIs.
• Hands-on performance testing of UIs and APIs with tools such as Apache JMeter, POSTMAN, Swagger, Rest Assured, and Gatling.
• Proficiency in Agile methodology, DevOps, Behavior Driven Development (BDD), and Test-Driven Development (TDD).
• Skilled in risk-based testing and metrics-driven quality assurance approaches.
• Experience with cross-browser testing across Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.
• Experience with data analysis and systems integration testing.
• Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and CI/CD practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

• Experience in a large enterprise environment with multiple integrated systems and shared test environments.
• Experience defining or improving automation frameworks and testing standards across a team.
• Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to other QA engineers.
• Experience testing customer-facing web applications at scale.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
