Senior Product Manager — Energy Utility Platform (m/f/d)

1KOMMA5°

At 1KOMMA5°, we pursue a clear vision: Living on wind and sunlight forever for free. To make this a reality, we are building the energy system of the future with Heartbeat AI. Want to be part of it?

We bring together regional craftsmanship and scalable software: We don't think of solar, batteries, heat pumps, and e-mobility as isolated components, but control them as an intelligent, integrated overall system in our virtual power plant. Directly connected to the electricity market – in real time, fully automated. This way, energy is used when it is available from renewables and particularly cost-effective. By 2030, our goal is to transition 1.5 million households to renewable energies. Over 3,000 people are working towards this every day, at more than 80 locations worldwide, from Finland to Australia.

Want to take responsibility and build solutions that truly matter? Apply now and help us shape the energy world of tomorrow.

Deine Position

As Senior Product Manager for our Energy Utility Platform, you will own a critical product area within one of the most strategically important domains in the company: enabling the energy products of the future. This means building the capabilities that allow our customers to fully participate in energy markets — from flexibility marketing and dynamic procurement to trading and optimized energy scheduling.

Your focus is on hands-on execution within the energy market products and the optimization layer that connects intelligent device control with market participation. You will work closely with the Engineering Manager, collaborating with our Energy Operations team who bring deep domain expertise and regulatory context.

You will contribute to the product strategy and roadmap for this domain while being the driving force behind day-to-day delivery: writing specs, running discovery, unblocking engineers, and shipping. This is a role that blends strategic thinking with strong execution — you own significant product areas AND you deliver against them yourself.

Your main focus will be to:

• Define and own the product roadmap for key areas of the Energy Utility Platform — energy market access, flexibility marketing, procurement, and the optimization layer connecting devices to markets — with a relentless focus on shipping and measurable outcomes
• Be hands-on in execution: write specs, run discovery sprints, prioritize backlogs, unblock engineering — this is not a strategy-only role
• Shape the energy products of the future: direct marketing, expanded flexibility participation, and new forms of customer market access — while tackling the regulatory and infrastructure challenges that make them possible
• Collaborate closely with Energy Operations (domain experts, regulatory context) and engineering to ensure product decisions are grounded in market reality
• Navigate complex regulatory environments (German energy market, MaKo, grid fee structures, metering) and translate them into actionable product requirements
• Balance product thinking with the discipline to solve hard infrastructure problems — you need both
• Report to the Director Product Heartbeat AI and contribute to portfolio-level strategy decisions

Other responsibilities:

• Ensuring alignment between the Energy Utility Platform and the consumer-facing Heartbeat App (pricing display, customer transparency, product activation)
• Establishing KPIs and monitoring for energy product health (procurement accuracy, market participation, SLA adherence)
• Managing stakeholder expectations across engineering, Energy Operations, commercial, and leadership

Dein Profil

The successful candidate will have:

• 3+ years of Product Management experience, with meaningful exposure to energy, utilities, or similarly regulated platform/infrastructure products
• Track record of strong product execution — you've shipped complex features end-to-end and driven measurable outcomes
• Solid understanding of energy markets, tariff structures, energy trading, or energy retail operations — this is a requirement, not a nice-to-have
• Experience driving platform or product builds in regulated environments — coordinating across engineering teams and navigating regulatory constraints
• Strong analytical skills: comfortable with data-driven decision-making and product metrics
• Good stakeholder management: you can navigate engineering, commercial, and operations conversations with confidence
• Exceptional communication skills in English; German is a strong plus (many stakeholders are German-speaking)
• Based in Germany or willing to relocate — this role requires presence in the German energy market context
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced, scaling environment where ambiguity is the norm

Bonus points for:

• Experience with energy trading, flexibility marketing, or balancing markets (TSO/DSO interaction, scheduling, balancing pool management)
• Understanding of how optimization/dispatch systems interact with market participation (e.g., demand-side flexibility, virtual power plants)
• Knowledge of specific regulatory frameworks (EnWG, MaKo, REMIT, MsbG)
• Familiarity with data-heavy architectures (event-driven systems, IoT data pipelines, forecasting)
• Previous experience building 0→1 products in regulated industries Why this role matters:
This is not an incremental product role. You're helping build the products that let 100,000+ customers participate in energy markets — flexibility marketing, dynamic procurement, intelligent scheduling. The decisions you make here directly shape whether Heartbeat AI becomes the default energy platform in Europe. You'll need both the ability to execute fast and the mindset to navigate regulatory complexity. If you want to ship meaningful energy products at scale, this is it.
