Designs and optimizes high-voltage power conversion hardware and control systems for next-gen energy infrastructure, using advanced topologies like SiC/GaN devices and Solid State Transformers.
Company Overview
Amperesand is reinventing how the world powers its most critical systems.
We are facing a once-in-a-generation opportunity for infrastructure disruption. Electricity demand is skyrocketing, driven by AI factories, electric vehicles, and modern industrial growth. Energy supply is shifting to incorporate a more diverse mix of resources – including solar, gas, and batteries – at a massive scale.
And yet the power infrastructure behind our latest mega-projects hasn’t meaningfully changed in nearly 100 years. Supply chains for today’s infrastructure equipment can’t match the pace and sophistication of critical energy projects. Amperesand is building hardware and software that rewrites this broken power infrastructure playbook to support a new era of energy abundance.
We’ve built a new class of intelligent, software-defined power infrastructure products leveraging a decade of advanced medium voltage Solid State Transformer research that’s now ready for commercial deployment.
Our products and solutions go far beyond the capabilities of traditional electrical equipment. We make power systems that are faster to deploy, dramatically smaller and more efficient, and capable of supporting modern, dynamic energy needs for tomorrow’s most demanding energy consumers.
Scalable in-house advanced manufacturing capability is our foundation for meeting timeline and quality expectation to serve infrastructure customers around the world.
Amperesand is led by breakthrough energy hardware development veterans and funded by top tier investors who share our vision of building a category-defining energy technology company.
With hubs in San Francisco, Reno, and Singapore, our global team is laser focused on building foundational technology to solve the most pressing problems in power infrastructure at scale.
Join us in building the power foundation of the future!
Responsibilities:
- You will be responsible for designing isolated and non-isolated converter stages, implementing advanced topologies such as multi-level converters, cascaded H-bridges, Dual Active Bridge (DAB) and ensuring robust protection and safety compliance for MV/LV systems.
- Perform trade-off analysis and optimization of power conversion hardware to balance between loss, cost and size across Semiconductors, Magnetics and Cooling components
- Develop modulation techniques and control algorithms to handle corner-case operation of modular power stages.
- Develop Static and Dynamic equivalent models for power stage hardware to support closed-loop control implementations.
- Design and verify high-voltage isolation strategies using magnetically and optically isolated signal and power paths across LV-MV domains.
- Use FEA simulations to design magnetics; guide high-power high-frequency PCBA designs.
- Work in close coordination with mechanical designers, manufacturing and test engineers to own the complete development cycle.
Qualifications:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Power Electronics, Electromagnetics or related field.
- 2+ years' experience in power conversion design.
- Strong fundamentals in power converter topologies, modulation techniques, and design trade-off analysis.
- Experience working with SiC/GaN devices in high-density designs.
- Good understanding of loss mechanisms in Semiconductor devices, Passive EE components and high-frequency magnetics
- Demonstrated expertise in simulation-driven design and figure-of-merit evaluation across topology, controls, devices, and magnetics.
- Knowledge of EMI/EMC test Standards and Electrical Safety (IEC, UL) Standards.
- Strong analytical skills for interpreting simulation and test data to guide design revisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communications in English
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% including internationally
Please note: This role requires working on-site 5 days a week. We do not offer hybrid or remote options.
Salary: $175,000-$205,000/annual DOE and location
