Senior Network Engineer | Global Trading Infrastructure
Permanent or Contract
Work on high-performance networks where reliability, security and latency directly influence trading outcomes.
Firesoft People is partnering with a global trading firm to recruit a Senior Network Engineer for its IT Operations team. This opportunity suits an experienced engineer with deep networking expertise who enjoys owning design decisions, solving complex problems and improving mission-critical infrastructure.
The opportunity
You’ll support and enhance infrastructure spanning global exchanges, colocation facilities and on-premises environments. The technology includes enterprise bare-metal hardware, FPGA-accelerated components and low-latency network architectures.
Working alongside a collaborative engineering team, you’ll own meaningful projects, contribute to architecture decisions and help deliver major infrastructure upgrades.
What you’ll do
Maintain and improve highly available core and WAN networks, including routing, switching, multicast and exchange connectivity.
Design, troubleshoot and optimise environments using BGP, OSPF, PIM and IGMP.
Own firewall policies and investigate complex network issues through packet captures and detailed analysis.
Support and tune Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems across bare-metal hardware and hypervisors.
Design and implement security controls and disaster recovery procedures.
Lead maintenance windows and infrastructure upgrades, coordinating with internal teams, exchanges and colocation providers.
Improve configuration management, monitoring and operational tooling using Ansible, Zabbix and Python.
Respond to incidents, identify root causes and implement improvements that strengthen resilience and performance.
What you’ll bring
Typically five or more years of experience supporting complex, mission-critical infrastructure.
Strong core and WAN network design expertise, with the ability to explain and justify your architectural decisions.
Deep hands-on knowledge of BGP, OSPF, firewall policies and packet-level troubleshooting.
Experience with multicast networking, including PIM and IGMP.
Hands-on experience across colocation and on-premises switching and connectivity.
Strong Linux skills, ideally with RHEL in high-performance environments.
Experience with infrastructure automation, configuration management and monitoring tools.
A proactive approach to identifying risks and opportunities for improvement.
Clear communication, sound judgement and the ability to remain composed during time-sensitive incidents.
Why consider this role?
Work on technically demanding, low-latency trading infrastructure.
Take ownership of projects and influence network and infrastructure design.
Join a collaborative team that values practical engineering and well-designed solutions.
Explore either a permanent or contract engagement.
